hi guys i was wondering what might be causing my string slap problem. i know its due to bad form but does draw length have any factor? i was measured for a 30 inch draw and thats what my bow is set at. i feel i need to bend my arm a little when i shoot is that normal? any advice will be great thanks guys.
Draw length could be to long. Is your left arm (if your right handed) fully extended? Check your wrist to you should b able to lay something flat from the back of your hand to your arm. Almost as if your shaking the bows hand. When I shoot the palm of my hand is on the left side of the bow and my thumb is directly between myself and the grip. There are many styles you'll learn what works best for you.
do not know if this is a factor or not but i had the same problem a while back when i shot darton bows. put a set of sights on my bow then (apex i believe) with the small level on the bottom, seemed to help a lot.
Sounds like your DL could be too long. The elbow on your bow arm should not be straight, so yes there should be a bend in it. If it was me, I'd begin by shortening my DL in .5" increments until it felt right.
my pops bow has a 29 " draw, pulled it back wayyyyy to short. its not my draw length. i think its just i need to bend my arm a bit (which is what i do). its the only thing i do that prevents string slap. but i heard in a PSE video that shooting with a bent arm hurts consistency. whats your guys take on that? again thanks for all the tips and suggestions.
Actually, it's probably your grip. I can shoot a 30" bow even though I'm only a 29" DL without any slap problems because I hold the bow correctly. You should be letting the bow rest against the base of your thumb, and not WRAPPING your fingers around the grip. Try hollding your finger tips on the front of the grip. GRIP the bow, then hold it the way I mention, and watch the way the bow torques in towards your forearm when you GRIP it. Read this article, it may help a little.... http://www.bowsite.com/bowsite/features/practical_bowhunter/grip/index.htm Also, you can shoot with a STRAIGHT arm with a HIGH Wrist open hand grip, and attain consistency, it's just not the "preferred" method. I shoot (before I broke my neck, I hope to be able to shoot again sooner than later) with my Bow Arm almost locked out, because I found it made me a slight bit more consistent.

The problem is going to be your grip... I had the same problem until buckeye & Rob/PA straightened me out. Unfortunately this happened in person, as we all shot together at a range. The best suggestion I can give you is to make sure that your bow is being braced by the "ball" of your thumb at full draw. My index finger and thumb make very loose contact (at the very tips) around my bow's grip, with the middle, ring and pinky fingers "open"; as if giving an OK sign. I used to grip the bow with my entire hand, which pushes the elbow joint and forearm out and into the line of fire, so to speak. If I were you, Danny, I would hit the local range or pro-shop to seek a hands-on demonstration. Most guys are happy to help... if that's not an option, check out any videos you can find on youtube. There's usually some pretty decent demonstrations that can be found. ...also, watch how dramatically your accuracy improves, once you get it down properly!
Sorry about that. This is the full tag. http://www.bowsite.com/bowsite/features/practical_bowhunter/grip/index.htm
