Hello all, I recently purchased a 2018 Bear Approach HC. This bow was set up and tuned by my local pro shop and was a tach driver for about 300 shots. At that point the peep started rotating and ended up cutting into the string. I took it back to the shop and they replaced the string but not the cables since they were in good order. While I was there, I purchased some of the Victory XV micro diameter arrows. After it was tuned again, I got 306 FPS @ 61 lbs with a 28.5 draw with the new arrows. I took it home and shot it a few times and it is waaaay louder than it was before. I tried the heavier arrows I was shooting before, thinking the arrow weight effected the string differently to not make it so loud, but it was also loud very loud. Before my first string messed up, it was relatively quiet. Why would it be so loud now? It’s like a very loud snap once it is released. Almost like snapping a rubber band on a piece of paper is the best way I can describe it.
If the peep was rotating and cutting the string (never heard of that), maybe it wasn't "served" properly, or at all, allowing it to move? Also, is it possible you're somehow getting that slapping sound from your string suppressor? Other than that, I can't think of what it might be.
Does your new string have speed nocks (usually they are covered in heat wrap towards the cams on the bow). The factory string usually comes with these and most aftermarket strings do not which could attribute to some noise but I wouldn't think it would affect it that much
#06fps at #61 tells me your arrows are very light. I know you said your tried your "heavier arrow". Do you know what they actually weigh? Try shooting some 450-500gr.
The string he replaced it with was straight off another identical factory bow because my string didn’t come in and I have a hunt coming up. The peep was served in but the guy at the pro shop said he bought a new brand of peeps to try and they had started cutting into the strings a few times. Yes my new arrows are very light. My older ones weighed in at 405. It was quiet before the new string but now it’s super loud. There’s no difference in sound from the light arrows and the heavier. It has a really really loud snap. I’m scratching my head guys. Idk. I guess it could be the string suppressor but they look like they are adjusted appropriately.
lord, under 405 total arrow weight or just the shaft? If TAW that's very light, my Brother. I was going to say maybe this new string is or is not served where the string stop hits (whatever is opposite of your original)? Were there any string suppressors on the original? Just because they were both original strings doesn't mean both had the exact same things on them. I have test shot some brand new bows from the same manufacturer where some had monkey tails and some did not. I would also guess that his "peep sights cutting the string" excuse was really just one of his staff using a sharp instrument to separate the string, but that's just a cynical guess. Slightly off topic, but I was having issues with how loud my new Bowtech was. Then I bought some Bowjax limb silencers. Insane level of noise reduction. Due to the riser design I was actually able to set them behind the limb pockets facing me so there was no reduction in speed. They won't help string noise but you may want to give them a try to lower the other noises emanating from your bow. Reduced hand shock also.
