Just saw this on AT and thought I'd share. High speed film of string loop vs nocks. Go to http://www.limbsaver.com/ take a look at the "High Speed Slow Motion Videos"

Ok so you tie the nock set, question is what's stopping your release from tearing it up?

The video is interesting but I think many people take too much stock in them. In the height of my 3D days and tuned bows (95-02), I never once used a string loop, now these were on 36" ATA bows. The first string loop I used was when I bought my 06 Allegiance. 34" ATA bow. I have not seen the scores change nor the tunability of a bow. On short bows, I like and recommend loops for just what the video showed, nock pinch. On longer ATA bows, I don't deem them necessary but can't ever fault the use of one either.

In 95-02, was my nock sliding? I'll never know but it didn't materialize in tuning nor in scores.

The reason I prefer a string loop is that the string is perpendicular to the arrow at full draw until it is released from the string. Also, my release is in-line with the arrow, not below it.

I agree. I can't think of any real negative to a loop. I have loops on all 5 of my bows and will on my Air Raid when it comes.

I think it needs mentioned too, that when shooting without a loop in the past that I mentioned, I never had nock to caliper contact. I always either used a rubber stop, nock set etc.. may contribute to NOT having the nock move down the string as the video indicates.

the way I've seen photos of both up close, is the the string loop puts the stress evenly on both side of the nock/arrow, compared to hooking your release directly to the string. the release puts a tremendous amount of stress under the nock causing that sliding to occur. Have some one actually draw in front of you & hold it. You'll seen it put pressure under the arrow, almost torquing in down ward. I've used loops since I saw those photos.

loop also helps serving wear...much easier to replace IMO. I switched for accuracy reasons too though.

i didnt use the loop on my bow last year and the year before but my dad bought a new bow with one on and he said it is way nicer to shoot and doesnt wear down the string. i agree with mohuntin to that it is wayyyy cheaper to get a new loop insted of a string.
