Did not want to hijack the "how often should we replace string " thread, but mention was made regarding proper string care. I'm new to all this and would like to know what I should be doing to care for my new string. You'd think the Bow Shop guy would have explained this when I bought the bow, but he had a lot to tell me at the time as I am totally new to archery. Like everything else, I'm sure theres more than one opinion. Thanks JJD
Main thing is to wax it. THis keeps the moisture out. Numerous types/styles of wax. Most will look like a tube of chapstick (size of container). Apply to string and rub it in with your fingers. Newer products are synthetic and are liquid, roughly the same size container but you don't need to touch it after application. Other things to keep in mind are the twist of the string, checking your string for nicks/cuts/wear. Checking your serving (looks like thread) on the cable, which is wrapped around the actual cable in high wear areas such as where your nock location is. Hope this helps.
Wax is obviously the main thing to do to any string but cleaning a string is also very important. The next time you go to wax your string, take a piece of serving material, about 2ft long and wrap it around the string one time, then pull the loose ends tight and slide the serving up and down the string. What you'll see is a "booger" of old wax being stripped off of the string. This wax has dirt and other contaminants in it and should be removed before applying new wax. I do this about every other wax job. It not only cleans up the string for the new wax, but helps keep the string looking new.
