Is there anything I should put on the crossbow string to condition or protect the string? I used string wax on my compound, do I do the same on my crossbow?

Both my cross and compound get a heavy rub in of the recommended string "lube".

I have not applied wax in years. My bow does not see daylight, when I shoot it is out of my shop. I buy new strings and cables every other season and they are never frayed when I have them removed.
