I have a mission x3. (poor man's Matthews ) this will be the fifth year/season I had it. thought I should take it in to the shop for a "physical" everything was ok, except for the tech suggested new string and cables. appx $110 for replacement. I kept them waxed and cleaned off excess at end of each season, and reapplied fresh wax for off season storage, other than a small fray at bottom of string. should I have them replaced or wait until I see significant wear. I have other older bows with cables that have been on there for many years. only changed strings when necessary... any suggestions. thanks...

I would replace them...5 + is a long time for newer compounds with high speeds...lotta stress and stretch on that string....ill tell you one thing when it snaps or lets loose on the shot you will know it immediately....ouch

Like everyone else has mentioned - its time.... The material looses strength over time so as you are shooting, strings look 'ok' then all of a sudden - snap..... Often times strings are weak or damaged in the middle of the string and you don't see it until it's to late...

Yep, I would get them replaced. I just got mine redone after a year even though I waxed them after every use. I shoot a ton though. Also new string and cables are a good selling point and you could charge more for it if you ever wanted to sell your bow and get an upgrade.
