That was my point exactly! any hunter with any weapon can be a slob hunter and they give us all a bad name.

Thanks guys... It all really just came natural. The guy admitted I saved him hrs of tracking. As far as the drag no problem there ...I am a younger guy, he was an older man 40s complaining about a neck. One thing I didn't specify earlier the does he shot @ were inside 30. That buck was reverse across the back side of his climber prolly 30-40 yds. As far as CB hunters go I could careless. Their are slob compond hunters and their are slob crossbow hunters. Nothing will change that except experience and maturity. There is no such thing as forcing a shot on bow hunting you have it or you don't and even then things can go wrong its part of the sport.

**This thread was not intended to be an xbow vs compound debate**

You did the right thing teammate :)

Glad it wasn't a bigger deer, it could have gotten ugly. Thats the darkside of the hunting world we live in.

You can't make other hunters be ethical...very noble of you to end the suffering AND help the guy.

Much respect, I hope I could do the same.

You are a good role model for hunters everywhere. Did you have time to chat with him about the shot selection? Maybe give him a couple pointers?

you did the right thing. that deer would have wandered a long ways before dropping, and might not have been recovered. Or even worse, the deer would have survived a few more days and died of infection. Its a shame that hunter wouldnt take the time to prepare himself before taking his crossbow into the woods. Its unfair for the deer that he may injure, and in your case, unfair for other hunters around him. I applaud your sense of judgement in that situation, good job!

Totally agree that you did the right thing. I actually had the same exact thing happen a couple years ago. I was 4 hours from home on the last night of my hunt. A button buck and 140ish class buck come running up the hill to me. I only had one arrow because I had dropped my quiver out of the tree earlier. The button bucks intestines are dragging behind him. There was no doubt about what to do. Shot the button buck and backtracked to find the guy that shot it. Don't have a single regret about it. I couldn't have lived with myself shooting at the other buck. Glad to know there are still people like you out there to do the right thing.

Finally! Something all hunters can agree on. You and teh other hunter did exactly what should be done. You both deserve a pat on the back for working as a team to accomplish that goal.

if i saw a guy post up 100 yards from where i was, it wouldn't have come down to this. i would have told him to leave, or i would have left.
