Setting is in a residential neighborhood Not to large of woods area.
i talk with Turkeys almost bi-dailey in my back yard. they come through quite often. Killed one last year ;)

There was a tom gobbling last night around 8pm It was dark. This is strange for them to be talking this late no?

Today around 11am he was gobbling away again. Great grab my bow and start calling. I sense he is about 100yrds away. Talk back and forth for about 45min. He's not moving.. SO i think maybe its injured?
So i grab my call and walk to him. Calling every 30 sec to try to find his location as he is talking back. Im making a ton of noise walking its thick with skunk cabbage and swamp mud.. Then BAM he's about 15 feet right in front of me on the ground. HE didn't move when he saw me didn't run or try to get away. I use my call and he gobbles back for about a min or 2. he is not scared or concerned with me being right next to him. Strange no?

Ya crap... why didn't i carry in my bow...

SO i walk back to the house and continue to cluck and he starts following me like my dog coming home with me.
We walk for about 50 yards and he stops and goes back to where he was.

Is it possible he got lost from his flock and is hoping they come back? Why wasn't he scared of me?

Thoughts? My buddy thinks i shouldn't shoot him now. he's almost my friend now...:nana:

    What do you guys think?

If you're in an urban area, he's probably just not afraid of you. In some areas, wild turkeys start attacking people... they lose all fear.

At my ex-in-laws, there was a big old tom that would stand on the deck and stare into the sliding glass doors and watch us. He also roosted on the roll bar of the pickup truck and would gobble at anyone walking up the driveway.

Dude, you're like the Turkey Whisperer. I don't think you can shoot him now, I believe the two of you have bonded.

No way you could shoot that bird. Put a collar on him and keep him around as kind of a pet.

I agree with Christine. Chances are, he's not afraid of you because he's accustomed to people.

he was probably part of a farm and he escaped or he was a pet if he is that used to people.

Deer do This all the time minus the gobbling of course!!! How many pics have you seen a person feeding a wild deer. Chances are he is a younger bird who has been around the neighborhood all his life and hasn't been shot at. Should you shoot him? That's up to you! Personally, I would! Why?? If he is that use to people, he will probably end up messing up a hunt on another bird. That would be the reason I would use to justify killing him anyways!! Judge me if you want.

Twillcox beat me to it, don't know where you're from, but turkeys as pets are commonplace round these parts.
