Straight or angled spotting scopes? What is your preference and why? What is best for all around use? I have a straight, been looking at angled... Some guys that have moved to angled wish they hadn't, others say they could never go back to a straight.
I'm glad you asked that. I want to get a spotting scope but haven't and straight or angled is one of the reasons. It likely won't be on a mount/tripod so I have been leaning to straight.
I have a straight and would like a new one in the next few years so this is topic to watch for me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is a tough question... Both have their obvious pro's and con's. Angled, cant look downhill comfortably Straight, can't look up hill comfortably There are several companies who are now offering the best of both worlds; an angled scope that actually allows the scope to pivot left or right 90 degrees to allow viewing from any angle. Brand/model depending.. My money is on the angled
Angled you can use without a tripod comfortably throwing it on top of your pack. However I think it would be a real b*tch to use angled from a window mount in the truck. Angled seems to best for a bench shooter of for long periods of glassing from the field. But how would angled work out with a camera adapter?
As far as just freehanding it? The angled scopes that have the ability to tilt are not bad out of a truck
