Any of you boys ever use stone points for hunting?? I'm going to give it a go this season after we get some good snow on the ground! Ever thought about it??

    Joe:

I know nothing about them. IF I was gonna do it, though.....it would be with a wooden arrow and something that I tied on, myself.

I just don't know how ethical it would be (for ME to do it).

Good luck. Post your build along!

never did it.... YET, but i really want to and will some day. some people may consider it unethical, but i still believe shot placement kicks the crud out of any fancy broadhead, and we all know that they work. good luck and let us know how you did......... in many... many months :)

I was on a pheasant hunt this past monday, was talking with the guy who puts it on. He has 2 giant bucks on the wall, both taken with arrows tipped with rock. I couldn't believe how sharp these same heads were that passed thru both deer. I'm talking SHARP, scary SHARP, after a complete pass thru mind you! I have no problem what so ever hunting with these heads, I don't really see why ethics are even mentioned. Confused on that one...

With my first go around I'm going to have the heads made for me by a guy in Michigan, just because the heads will be more in tune with each other. I'm not sure what kinda shaft I'll use yet, I'm thinking Douglas Fir, still have to do a bit more research still on this part!

I want to do this so bad Joe but just haven't done It yet. I know this though that when I do It and am successful In doing It I may stick with It for a while just because It's "neat".

Screw the bow, just go with spears. Better yet...you guys can run the deer down and cut its throat :D

On a real note, good luck :D

    Joe:

Shoot me a PM with your address (again). I have several issues of "Primitive Bowhunter" magazine I'll send you. I was just reading an article on stone points (and arrow making).

Awesome Jeff! I've always wanted to do this even when thinking about switching to the Longbow, this was always the plan, Longbow and Stone Points. I then thought it was illegal to use the Stone points, talked to a buddy whos killed a couple nice deer here with them! So I called and talked with a GW here in Madison and he confirmed that its legal! So my quest begins....

    Thanks Jeff!

No doubt that they're sharp. Properly cleaved obsidian is one of the sharpest things known. I've heard that obsidian blades were used for eye surgery before lasers came around because they are sharper than you can get stainless.

Yeah Rob, I had no idea! The serrated edge must just do some serious cutting!
