The other day i went to the tree i left my trail camera on and found out it was gone. The trail camera was on private property near public land. I was wondering what the best way that I can lock a trail camera to the tree?

Best thing to do is hang them high. Take a 6 foot ladder with you and hang them 12 feet high. Yeah it sucks that you have to do this, but it make it harder for thieves to take them.

I started carrying my climber since it's easier to pack than a ladder to get the camera's mounted high. But I go fairly deep in public land. I don't leave cameras out often on public land, but when I do, hanging them high seems to help. So far the two I have left have still been there upon return. I just put a stick or wedge behind them so they angle properly.

Sorry for your loss. I had a LW stand stolen on private land once, and it was locked! They have cable locks that fit some cams, but there's no real way to keep a cam totally safe. If a thief wants something badly enough, he'll get it.

I use these when I hang them high. It helps me get the angle I need.

My M100 trail camera was stolen in a very remote area. It was in a lock box lagged to the tree and pad locked. They came back with tools and neatly stole everything. The camera was password protected so it will not take pictures unless the correct password is entered first.

I'm hanging them high now too. I drag a 10' folding ladder and get them up around 15'
I know they will still get stolen but at least the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing booger pickers will have to work a little to get them.
