Ever heard of or used this trick to get rid of unwanted boot scent? If so, did it work for you and how long did you keep your boots in the freezer?

I use it for my boat shoes as I wear them everyday and don't wear socks so when they start to smell, throw them in overnight and the next morning they are good to go.

What's the thought process here? The cold kills the bacteria that is causing the odor?

I've tried it before and it took a couple weeks in freezing temps outside to help a lot.

Just to be clear, are we speaking about the new boot smell/scent that comes along with the boot being brand new or are we speaking about the odor in the boot caused by our owe stink?

I only ask cause I can't get rid of my new boot smell, tried everything even letting them out in the sun and still to no avail

It only helps fight bacteria caused odors.

I've only done it for stinky cave man feet smell. The subfreezing temps will kill bacteria. I do not think it would do anything for chemical smells like new boots.

I kinda thought that was the original question but I needed to ask just in case since I'm experiencing difficulties with new boot smell

I just wash my rubber boots out Oxi Clean and let dry. My other boots I just let set outside in the sun shine. If she opened the freezer to get a package of blue berries and found my stinking boots in there I would have more problems than stinky boots.

If they're in your freezer you'll just see boots...no stinky. :moose:

If I put my boots in the freezer and my wife found them, I'd have a whole other stinky boot problem...the one I had to have surgically removed from my rear end.

I think I might try putting my spare release in the freezer before I stick it in my pack. It seems to smell like a boot from wearing it to practice in the heat of summer. Never heard of freezing gear before but gonna give it a try.
