Sweet, thanks! Might use this spot as well. Tomorrow winds are supposed to be NW. Red = access, Yellow = deer trail along ridge, Blue = wind tomorrow.

If that is a good deer trail then I would say that is a good area to hunt given the wind. Right as you come by that bend in the field I would set up without going to much further east or risk getting winded by any deer bedded to the south of the field. At this time of the year deer love to bed real close to feed, partly because they have not felt real deer hunting pressure and because it is hot.

I think you are quick learner if you picked that spot for a NW wind. Good work.

Redz, that public area looks to be fantastic. There are so many options on that place it is incredible.

One tip......as the pressure mounts on that property, start crowding the hunting boundary lines near suburban neighborhoods. Those deer will feel safe near those areas and many times, the topographical changes and cover merge in those areas making for outstanding deer movement.

Which area do you like best? I plan to use River Rd for any wind coming S, SW, or SE. Riffleford Rd/Black Rock Rd for NW, or W.

I have another little spot I'll show tomorror.

    Thanks for all your help!

Use spots where there is good cover and where the wind blows from the ridgetops toward the bottoms of the hills in the evenings, just like the spot you chose above. I already see some spots on the other spots on Seneca that look awesome to hunt, one or two inparticular.

How'd you do tonight, I made it out after work and haven't seen deer moving like that in years. I had deer under me from the time I climbed up till I left. Still no sign of the king yet though.

I hope you do well in the a.m. it should be a good morning with temps down below 50. One other question, how high are you climbing? I try to get up at least 20 ft or so, deer won't spot you as easy. Good luck let us know how you do.

Stick with it. I live in Howard County and hunt a few public areas like Patapsco and Liberty occasionally but mostly at my lease out in New Market in Frederick County. Today was the first day I could get out and I saw 9. Two 4 points and 7 does. They are moving bit just takes time. My first year hunting I didn't kill my first deer until 8 days before the season ended in late January. You are on the right track and there are some great deer in MoCo. Stay positive and your kill will come.

Thanks, I hope so! Yeah, I think climbing is one of my shortcomings. I was more comfortable with the climber today, but it took me a while to find a suitable tree. Then I could only get up about twelve feet (tree got too thin).

Its all about learning right now Redz. If you keep learning at the rate at which it sounds you are, you are going to be in good shape once the hunting gets to be red hot here in the next couple months. Everytime you pick a tree to hunt out of, take a good long look at every angle and imagine deer coming from spots. If you can't imagine deer moving or if you can imagine deer moving but you can't imagine a good shot on those deer from that particular tree, MOVE.

Successful hunt this AM, no deer, but I did find my Thermacell! I found some other hunters too, so I must be getting closer!;)

This morning's hunt actually turned into a scouting trip, since I went to a new spot. After about 150 yds I left my climber in the bushes, because I didn't want to carry it around blindly in the dark. Then I just scouted around until I ran into some other hunters on their way out, and got some info on the area. Not a total loss!
