Day two and not only haven't I made a kill, but I haven't even seen a deer! A little discouraging! Maybe Monday or Tuesday.... Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
Buddy welcome to hunting. This is why this site isn't called www.bowkilling.com. is this your first outing? If so remember to not move a lot. Deer are constantly scanning the woods. Plus its still early in the season so deer aren't moving like they will be in about a month.
Thanks. Yeah, first season out. Tried from a stand for a bit on Friday, and a little still hunting today. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
Get into a stand and stay put. You just entered a sport which takes an enormous amount of time and patience. Especially if you have no prior deer hunting experience or mentor. I was self tought and took me 3 or 4 years to get one. Now I get em and I am on year 16. Welcome to the addiction.
Deer are everywhere here in MD, that's why I thought it was going to be easy (that and watching all those tv hunting shows)! Yeah, I'm teaching myself at 39. Better late than never! I've got a climber, just need to find the right location and conditions. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
it will come brother. i have hunted for a few years and took up bowhunting this year. patience and just putting the time in out in the woods are important. keep the wind in your face. best of luck. keep us posted.
It was 90 degrees here in MD on opening day and severe storms today, I saw a lot of deer both day but only because I've been hunting the same property for years and know where they're at. Don't get discouraged many of my hunting buddies refused to even step foot in the woods this weekend, so your one up on them already. You've gotten some good advice, climb a tree and sit still watch the woods for parts of deer not the whole animal. You'll be filling the freezer in no time.
You got two have patience, or it wont work. I hunted two years before i even arrowed my first deer. But i truly enjoyed getting out those two years even though i didnt stick one.
You'll get on some deer redz. Just keep at it, and keep hunting for good sign and travel routes. Find places where multiple trails connect and hang a stand. Take care of your scent and play the wind. You know what to do. It's early and deer movement is minimal in the day still. With this cold front passing through, you should see more activity this week. Good luck.
Check the creeks for trails. Hunt the field edges. Look for rubs on the edge an dropping in field edges. Check the acorn trees. See if any of them are dropping. Listen for the acorns dropping that is what they do.
1,000 acre public land tract. Multiple ag fields bordered by thick timber. Access is from the north and its bordered by a river at the south. I've seen numerous acorns (big and small ones), and there also were these things that looked like tiny peaches (idk if deer like them). I've also seen plenty of tracks and scat. There is a pic on one of my previous posts entitled "opening day strategy help". I have two other public areas available depending on weather and wind. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
What specific spots in MD? Being a native a may be of some help Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Seneca Creek. I've been focusing mostly on the River Rd area. Might go to the Riffleford/Black Rock area tomorrow, depending on what the wind does. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
I'm close to the Game Preserve section and Strider also. Frederick is not too far as well, but I haven't scouted these places. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
Haven't hunted them...id consider prettyboy(7000ac), liberty(9700ac), and loch raven. All bow hunting only and plenty of deer Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Cool, thanks. I'll look them up. Yeah, I'm in Montgomery County. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
