Now I know that there's a few bucks left over, but they are lost on my ground. I think I'm going to have to rethink my camera's deployment. I really didnt want to enter the kings chamber, but i need to know what I've got. I guess I'll put on my Ninja gear and be one with the squirrels this week (hopefully). I already know that my does survived another season. I don't have a lot of fawns. I think the coyotes may have gotten most of them. I'm getting more yote picks then deer in some places. I'm considering getting my bow and taking some out prior to October. I'll have to put a swimming pool inside my blind along with 10 thermacells. My question is do you guys normally get a mix of pictures from a single camera? I mean do you get pics of does and bucks? I'm starting to get the feeling i have my camera's set up at a movie theater before Magic Mike starts. All females. I'm just wondering if I should put more focus on areas where I know the buck bed. I just don't like being there until its time to climb a tree with bow in hand.
seflbros...being in IL, not sure where Glen Carbon is, but if your experiencing the drought like we are in Northern IN, the summer patterns are ridiculously screwed up right now compared to the last 6-8 years in my memory banks. We put off putting in a watering hole this year and are seriously regretting that! We have got just a couple scrub yearlings on our normally hotbed small property. We have only one shooter on our new property we picked up that is promising (only one like 5 day card pull though so promising). I wouldn't hesitate to enter the fridges of deep bedding this time of year. Let them know your scent at night and not have anything happen to them...obviously I'd pull this cam spot come maybe late August and move to the the entrance/exits of bedding so you can still check but not interfere really close to season. Also if you're having a yote problem and Glen Carbon isn't terribly far for you I'll gladly come and set up with you to hopefully pop a few! Seriously...
And don't be sneaky, talk or whistle or sing when hanging and getting chip from camera...let the deer slip away from their bedding area safe, reinforces if occasional that the bedding area does just as it should protects them from approaching dangers.
My property is in the middle of several fields. It perhaps the main safe zone for most of the deer in the areas. Unfortunately, none of my property butts up to the fields except a spot were two neighbors hunt close to the border. They only have 10 acres so i leave that area all too them. I'm nice that way. I'm going to infringe on his domain this week. I'm considering pulling two camera's to put up in there and just leave them along until mid August. If there's nothing on the cameras by then I won't bother with that area. I like the 4wheeler idea. I'll try that out. People drive 4 wheelers in the area all the time.
