I've shot deer while on the ground but never successfully scored on a stalk. Stalking is great fun but I don't have enough land of my own to stalk one down. I resorted to crowding a bucks bedding area and waiting in my tree stand for him to come out. Evenings are best in the early season for me.
Ohh its so hard! Deer have some of the most keen sences out of any animal in the woods. Stalking them takes serious skill and stealth. I've never been able to successful get with in 20 yards of a deer with out completely spooking it. I'd drop the money on the stand to improve your success, but I'm not saying it isn't possiable.
