Just wondering how many of you will leave your sticks on a tree in a lease to get to your hang on's? I've got a new lease that I'm hanging two stands on tomorrow and setting up a blind and wondering if I should take the last two bottom sticks off when I leave? They owners said they never have issues with people coming on the property but We've seen tracks from a truck and footsteps on the property. On one hand, I'd like to leave them up so I don't need to carry them in and put them back on when I hunt and, also so that the others on the lease can use the stands. On the other I don't want poachers coming in and using the stands and or stealing them. These are Sportsman Guide sticks and stands so their not real expensive. It would just be more irritating to have them stolen or them shooting our deer and turkeys from our own stands.
I have my own property I hunt and live on. I still have stand locks on all of my stands. I haven't had any problems with thieves yet but just incase I went ahead and locked them. If it were me I would take the sticks with me. It sucks we have to even worry about this kind of stuff though.
I'm the same way. I had a trail cam stolen off my property and ever since then everything has a lock. Any hunting spot I have that isn't my property I use the trusty summit 180 max so I don't even have to worry about stuff there. I would take your sticks in every time if I were you. Unfortunately, you can trust everyone these days.
Ever since we had a couple Lone Wolf stands and sticks stolen from our lease a few years ago we started locking the platforms and taking the bottom two sticks when we leave. We'll put the sticks back in place during the season and usually leave them there, but anytime before or after the season they're out. Stands and sticks simply cost too much money these days to leave them on places where you don't feel secure.
Good advise. Maybe I'll take them down during off season then leave them up during season as long as people on the lease are there using them. I know we shouldn't have to worry about this stuff but we have locks on our homes and cars and we shouldn't have to do that either. Sucks.
I have had 2 trail cameras and a ladder stand stolen off my property (all at the same time). It sucks, and my blood still boils when I think about it. I'm about 95% sure I know who took them, and have some proof to back it up. I never came out and said I know he took them, but I have dropped hints when I talked to him or his buddies. With that being said, I do not remove my stick, and I leave my stands up year round. Why, convenience I guess.
I'm always thinking of putting the cameras up high enough to where you could catch A-hole messing with your stuff and game on the property. You'd just have to bring in sticks or a climber to check your camera each time.
What if I just rig them up so that when the little thief gets to the top rung the whole thing cut loose on him and he fall back 20' on his ares. don't think I haven't thunk of it.
