I have an SG550 that pooped the bed and doesn't work anymore. Think he'll warranty it for me? :D

[IMG] I have the stealth cam i890 flash cam and has served my well, going on its fourth year know. It has a 4 second trigger speed, poor battery life but I love flash night pics. Here is the 12 pointer from last year the huge bodied buck I call splitter, both these boys made it and I am starting to get pics of the 12 but splitter hasn't showed yet, I have no day pics of him. Man I hope covert comes out with another flash cam. Scoot

Flash cams are all but irrelevant. They DO spook deer as well as alert thiefs. Within a few years they will be 100% gone and only black flash cams will exist.

Do you know if all the Stealth Cam Skout 7s are the ZX7 processor? I purchased 1 Skout 7, its only 7MP and seems to have better quality pictures than the Archers choice and Delta 8 that are 8MP.

Appreciate the great feedback that everyone is providing.

I disagree with everything except alter thieves. Some deer are afraid of their own shadow and spook fro the littlest thing others couldn't careless. There is a big market for flash cameras and they do not spook all deer. I will NEVER go to 100% black flash cameras

Agree to disagree. My # of pictures has exploded since I got rid of flash cameras. When It snowed, I used to be able to see where deer went around trees that i used to hang my flash cams on. Id get 1 picture of a buck and then hed disappear. The less noticable cameras are to deer the better IMO.

Too many people like the crispness and color of white flash cameras for them to ever go completely away. Several people I know still use them, won't try an IR cam and don't worry about a thief finding them. There are also ways to help keep a deer from spooking with them, namely put them higher in the trees looking down. May not work 100% of the time but I've also had deer spook when the IR lit up so as gutone4me said, some deer spook at the sight of their own shadows.

Im not disagreeing that they take nice clear crisp pictures (ive owned many)...im saying they spook deer (fact). As hunters we buy expensive scent killing camo, scent killing products, hunt from tree stands...do everything we can not to have game detect us. Why would we not employ that same technique with cameras, that are supposed to HELP us....not hinder.

Some deer arnt afraid of them. And in some locations they are used to them. But if your scouting a secluded newly found trail, or edge, or a fresh scrape....why hang a cam thay MAY spook that buck? That doesnt make any sense to me.

Pat knows more about the numbers/industry then anybody here...but I can bet you Coverts best selling cams are all IR. And in a few years will be all black IR's. As the market goes...so will the products (for the most part)

I do agree that the IR seems to be the way most go these days, just those white flash guys are still out there as many do not like the slight blur they get from most IR cameras. I do like the way you think and approach using trail cameras and agree with you for the most part. The one thing that is out there will always be new entry level users and people that do not wish to spend a lot of money on something like a trail camera. So my thinking is the low end will always be there whether it's a white flash, standard IR or in the future maybe all black. For the most part my mineral stations I know bucks will show up to them as they are soooo irresistible :woot: and the cameras are always there, so they get used to them. I think when trying to use them to pattern deer, that's when you do like you say and hang only the best option and at the same time take scent control precautions, etc.. There are those out there who don't take it as seriously as you or I would and that's where the older style (and less costly) cameras will still serve the purpose.

How many white flash pictures of a 5.5 year old buck would you like to see ?

Caleb you know they spook your deer I wont argue that but to say they spook all deer is simply not true. If that is what your saying.

I got this one and only one picture of a 142" 8 pointer with a Cuddeback Capture and he never used this trail again. I ended up getting him with a bow in early Nov. I think mature bucks catch on real quick and avoid flash cams.

It all depends where you set up the flash camera. If its over mineral or bait, it doesn't bother them as much as on a trail. I've seen the same mature buck continually get his picture taken over a bait pile with a flash cam and it not bother him, but that same buck will go bat **** crazy if he walks in front of a flash cam on a trail.

And thats basically what i alluded too. Why limit yourself? Black flash seems almost too good to be true in that regard.

I think it depends of the deer, on my little 40 acres I own the flash cam doesn't seem to bother them and I have set it looking along a trail and have multiple bucks that have showed a lot more then once, the buck splitter kept using this same trail and I have quite a few pics of him for about two weeks in early November, it was just always at night. I have an old Moultrie flash cam and has been my same experience, it doesn't bother them. Depends on the deer I guess. Scoot

I have two Wildgame cameras and they have been really good for me. I'm going to buy a new Covert I think...really like the MP6 they have out. No more Stealth Cams for me.

Anyone read an article in a recent BH magazine about flash cameras? It was a study of camera positioning and what alerts them whether it was the actual object, the flash or the positioning/height. It was either Petersons or Bowhunting World but from it I got the impression that it wasn't necessarily the flash that spooked mature bucks but the actual object in their home area and how it was not normal.

Despite reading that, with the improved technology of No Glo IR cams, IMO they will phase out production of flash trail cams. Personally, despite a few of the flash cams taking better night pics I don't want to take any unecessary risk of alerting deer so I avoid using them.
