So I brought a couple of ribeye steaks back to school with me and I'm going to cook them up tonight. Usually all I do is throw some lawry's or montreal steak seasoning on them with some salt and pepper, but I'm thinking about possibly doing a marinade this time. I've always thought ribeye steaks had plenty of flavor to them already, but just feel like trying something different. Do any of you guys have marinades that you use quite a bit, or ones that you've tried that you really like? Hopin to get a couple quick responses because I need to go get it soon to marinade for 3-4 hours.

    Marinate a steak? Blasphemous!

Salt + Pepper + 1 minute on each side on a flaming hot grill = perfection

Agreed, now would you like that rare, medium rare, or ruined.

I can see what you're saying... I looked online and couldn't find a single marinade recipe that looked like it would taste worth a crap. If I find one that's good I might try it. As far as how cooked, it's gotta be medium rare for me.

If you just want something different, might I suggest cooking the steaks in a skillet, then making a quick red wine reduction sauce with the leftover fat/scraps on the bottom of the skillet once the steaks are removed for their 5 minute resting period?

I'll take a NY strip marinated in a nice chimichurri once and a while though, not sure about ribeye.

I don't know what to say about the idea of marinating a ribeye......

A strip or sirloin sure... But never a ribeye!

    This.

A steak has to be raw in the middle, or else its overcooked.

I myself like marinade. I see no issue of it. I have been using adolfs steak marinade for years on my deer steaks, and on ribeyes on occasion depending on the marbling.

There are dozens of great ways to cook steaks/meat and marinade is one of them. To think there is only one right way is leaving yourself out of lots of good things. I've marinaded steaks/meat in all kinds of sauces and liquids. I would suggest experimenting. That is how every great dish came about anyway, someone experimented with a new way instead of cooking something same way ol' way.

Experiment. LOL I've cooked steaks a lot of ways and do prefer a good ribeye. My old standbye is just kosher salt and pepper on the grill...don't over cook and cover with foil and let rest. The closest I come to a marinade for a ribeye is just some chopped garlic, several cloves, a little butter and olive oil in a pan, get it hot throw in the garlic, flop the steak for a short time on top of the garlic to sear, yank it off, spread on some butter and throw it on the grill. Salt and pepper again. Don't over cook.... rare to medium rare and all the world is in harmony. If you're just looking for a different flavor... just cook it and make a bernaise sauce or something. I really don't like covering steaks with sauces.

Ribeye...seasoned salt and pepper cooked to medium rare......I then take a small glass bowl that I use on the grill and put a couple of Tbsp. real butter and a crushed clove of garlic. Wait until the butter is crackling and pull off and pour over the steak. Let rest for 5 minutes and enjoy. Absolutely delicious.

If you insist on marinating a steak, one that I use once in a whiel is to take the Montreals steak seasoning and Italian dressing, mix thouroughly, then put it in a plastic bag and let the meat marinate in that mixture overnite. Mmmmmm good.

but..... I would never do that to a ribeye steak. I like 'em when they Moo and try to run off the plate when you stick the fork in them.

That post was kind of a big hijack. I started a new thread with it. Sorry for the confusion.
