Really depends on the temps. In 20-30 degrees I wore base layers and a light shirt and pants. When the wind chill was in the negatives I wore base layers, sweat pants, thin pants and a medium jacket and was very warm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I basically wore what I could walk into the stand with without breaking a sweat. The coldest sit I had on: UA2.0 top & bottoms fleece pullover cargo pant Gamehide Gridloc Pant & Jacket (also fleece) Other times I omitted the pullover & cargo pant. Still would use my hand muff inside the HBS with my liner gloves.
It depends on the temp and in addition to that everybody is a little different. Some people are thin skinned and others have bad circulation.... Here is there guide, your mileage may vary. I find I don't have to wear as much as they recommend. My friend wears a little more.
here's a couple of tips from an old guy that doesn't like the cold either. Wind is your enemy. that's what draws away the most heat from you. 1. Spend some money on good thermal wear. Wool is the best. Layer up with a couple of them. 2. I wear insulated nylone pants over my scent control base layer. The nylon keeps the wind out. 3. Buy your self a couple of "therma-seat" 1" pads. If your wearing bibs, tuck one in your lower back. it' makes a world of difference for keeping your back warm. The second one should be 2". Put that on your stand to sit on. A. if really cold put a couple of hot backs pinned to the 2" pad and on large one pinned to the back portion of your stand. The ones on the 2" pad will keep the blood warm in your legs. 4. For socks, use thin liners sox, silk are the warmest. followed by wool socks. A. look for the content amount (%) of wool. You'll be surprised how little "wool" sock have in them. Walmart has a good pair for about $8/pr that have 70% marino wool. B. Buy a wool/felt liner for your boots. remove the insole when you use them. keep plenty of air space in your boot to keep toes warm. Air space is a good insulator. This tips I've come up with over the years and have made a different.
Personally I've never tried the HBS. I wear a polyester base layer followed by UA treestand base layer. From here out it depends on temp. Then I wear the Day One fleece with wind stopper in it. Pants have high waist with built-in warmer pockets for your kidneys. I wear my LaCrosse 1500 gram boots and boot blankets.
