Well guys I was getting frustrated at this years deer encounters and needed to shoot a deer for the freezer
So I decided to sit in my ladder stand down by the swamp
I was going for broke the wind was blowing right in the swamp the way I was facing but that was ok I was going to be rattling hard and They were going to come down wind anyway.
I poured damn near a whole bottle of estrus all around me and had at it grunting rattling bleating
This guy comes running out of the swamp with a mission I grunt and he is broadside at 25 yards

Now the sad part is I chose to bring my gun today and hunt with the neighbor I didn't think they would come close enough with the corn gone now on that stand.
So I decided to give him a pass and he turned and was now quartering to me as my hand were numb from the wind chill being 6 degrees and the thought of needing more meat in the freezer I decided at the last second to shoot him. So it looks like my buck tag is a goner.

I wont be hunting again until there is snow on the ground and food is scarce we left a acre of standing corn and they usually hit it pretty hard mid December I should be able to get a doe for 50 points out of there.

On the plus side me and my uncle who split the meat have 3 deer now one more and that should be ok for the year 2 more would be great
Oh and they started to fish red lake so I may run up there next weekend and get some walleye

Put on about 3-4 miles scouting/still hunting a new area. Finally found a spot probably less than 100 yards from a county road. Hunted there for the last twenty minutes of the day. Passed this guy at 20-25 yards. [IMG]

Well I am back from my huntcation and unfortunatly I have nothing to show for it. I had two attemps at bucks and I missed both shots. The first was a smaller 10pt with a broken leg. I took a 50 yard shot and he was on alert and ducked my arrow. The second buck was poor shot placement on my part. He was quartering away kind of hard and I was to cocky and thought I could squeeze the arrow in the tight spot. I was wrong!

I never had an opportunity at a doe because I rarely saw one. Most of the deer were nocturnal and when I did see a doe it was out of range. I can honestly say this was probably one of my worst hunting trips I have ever had and especially at this property.

Illinois gun season is this weekend so I will be picking up my Savage 220 for the weekend. I will be back in Indiana thanksgiving weekend and a couple times in December. As of now it's not about getting a good buck anymore it's now all about making sure I get meat for the freezer.

Well guys, I have to take anotger break from hunting. Had another follow up doctors appointment yesterday since my surgery and I have to have another surgery because I am leaking cerebral spinal fluids. They are working on getting me on the table tomorrow morning hopefully, so hopefully I will be able to be back to hunting the beginning of January. I keep you all updated.

@tc racing the score card has been updated but your doe was not included. Fitz said you need a second picture. Do you have another?

I left off the time of day from my buck so that score has not been added either. I fixed it, should be included in the next score update.

How is everyone else doing this season?

Shot a nice buck on Saturday and unfortunately made a bad shot. He was quartering away and I hit him low and back. Followed blood a few hundred yards that evening, but it got dark so I backed out and went back to look this morning. Found half of the arrow 7-8 hundred yards from where I shot him and followed blood for close to a mile before we lost the trail. Checked the surrounding area, but ended up not finding him. Might go back and look around again in a couple days, but I'd say my chances of finding him are slim.

I reposted my pics and info. they are two different pics but have the same pose. hard taking them by yourself. one pic the head is more in the pic then the other. I'm sure he will give me a hard time about it. rules don't say 2 different poses just need 2 pics. we'll see what happens.
