Thank you, that was the whole goal with this harvest as she was small and not much meat. Shawn Jennings ProGold Easton Storm 279 grains NAP Spitfire DoubleCross 100 grains 2017 Team 3 Shed Hunting 2017 Team 6 Turkey Hunting 2017 Team 5 Deer Hunting
Awesome job Shawn. I never really had a close encounter Sunday or Monday morning. I did see a great buck about 160 yards away across the field Sunday morning. He hit a licking branch and then just continued on his way into the acorn grove. My cameras were pretty disappointing as well. I didn't have that many deer on camera at all. But like I was telling my father in law. All of the cameras are set on field edges around our food plots. Right now the deer are living on the great acorn mast we had this year. Also just a side note- If you haven't seen it yet go to the scorecard commentary page and check out the buck CowboyChris shot. That thing is crazy!!!!!
Thank you. Yeah I seen that buck. That is one crazy buck, hopefully he will be doing a shoulder mount on that thing. Shawn Jennings ProGold Easton Storm 279 grains NAP Spitfire DoubleCross 100 grains 2017 Team 3 Shed Hunting 2017 Team 6 Turkey Hunting 2017 Team 5 Deer Hunting
I think you are right about the acorn mast affecting deer movement. Hopefully, with it being early this year it well be over and done well before the rut starts. I know on the property I hunt, if the acorns are late dropping, movement during the rut is minimal.
I agree I have thought about moving a stand to the acrons Shawn Jennings ProGold Easton Storm 279 grains NAP Spitfire DoubleCross 100 grains 2017 Team 3 Shed Hunting 2017 Team 6 Turkey Hunting 2017 Team 5 Deer Hunting
I always put my stands as far back in the woods as I can because of acorn drop. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bedding areas across the property lines that I cannot hunt. During years of heavy acorn mast, deer rarely leave the bedding areas for the food plots on the property I hunt.
I was going to hunt a stand that borders some oak trees Sunday morning but as I got up to the field I thought the wind might be an issue and wanted to play it safe so I sat in more of an observation stand. Had I gone with my original plan I would have gotten a shot at a good mature 130's 10 point. But that's hunting and at least I know I have a buck that is making daylight appearances already.
Also pulled this out of one of my food plots yesterday. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
My property is only 6.5 acres with my house, im outside all the time with my 2 dogs and on my tractor. I sit on my porch and talk to my wife all the time with the deer out there eating they arent really spooked easily. If they are on the plot I can walk out the back door and behind the woodline. I have paths mowed all over the property. I'll take some photos and post them when I get home after work
That happens to me all the time and I keep telling my self to just go with my first choice. Last turkey season I told myself I was setting up in the sod field then I was like no ill go up the hill by the woods. Well guess where the turkeys came out and strutted for an hour. 20 yards away from where I set up. I was kicking myself the whole time. luckily I was able to get two to break out of the group and come around into the woods and loop around me after 2 hours of calling. This deer hunting season I will be going with my first instinct. My next sit will be Thursday night going to a public land spot I usually see does at a little down from my house. Will be trying to hunt from a blind this time as I never shot one from a blind yet. Looks like weather is calling for over cast and about 59 when I head out.
Not sure when I will be out next. Possibly in two weeks but if not I have a three day hunt weekend scheduled for the last weekend in Oct.
If you haven't seen it yet on the Live from the Stand thread, @tc racing killed a stud buck last night. Hopefully, he will give us the story and a few more pictures soon. Great job putting up points and congrats TC!
I would like to try to find a way to buy like 200 acres of good hunting land with a mix of pastures lots of woods, ponds a small lake ect cut in an awesome trail system for horses and atv's and set up a non profit to take veterans and disabled veterans hunting and do outdoor activities. I am a disabled veteran , I have a lot of friends that I haven't hunted before that I like to take out and get in the woods, try to teach them everything I know to set them up for success when they go out on their own.
Yep I actually already have a stand 20 yards from it. I just wasn't in it at the time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
