Great looking deer Henson! I am shooting the Slick Trick Magnums again this year. I didn't need to buy new ones this year. Last year I used the same head on two deer and a coyote. Blades are still in great shape and sharp. I have three brand new, unshot broad heads left from the pack I bought last year.

That deer in the second picture looks a like a big-bodied, mature deer. Good luck!

Thats what he looks like to me too. Hes the same buck in the first and second photo. Looks like there is four bucks on this property with a 2 1/2 yr old six as the dominant bully buck. Im going for the bruiser this year and ill have my buddy take out that six early since he appears to be bullying the other deer.

Last year both my wife and I used Rage hypodermics, This year I am thinking about using g5 dead meat broad heads. Im still using Black Eagle arrow. i really love them. If you havent tried them Its worth a look, i switch over from Carbon Express 2 years ago and really like them.

I may need to get new arrows. Just picked up a Jennings ProGold and have it set at a 80#'s with a 29.5" draw. Went to get arrows and the guy set me up with a 340 spine Easton arrow. Been getting inconsistent arrow flight so i called another archery shop and he is thinking that is the problem says i should be shooting a 300 if not a 250 spine. What are your guys thoughts. Still gotta go to the new bow shop and planning to before surgery.

I would think at 80lbs and 29.5" draw you would need at least 300 spine. I shoot 70lbs at 26.5 and I shoot 340 Easton Axis arrows. I would take the 340s back and get 300s.

Well update on my surgery. Looks like i will be having brain surgery around the end of October don't have the official date yet cause both surgeons have to work out the exact date to fit both their schedules. So I'm hoping for between the 20th and the 27th so i don't miss the rut, lol. But ill be in the hospital for 2 to 5 days and off work for a month so hopefull that will be a month of hunting time.

You drop your draw weight down to around 70 and use the current arrows without buying more. 80lbs draw weight is almost too much for deer.

True, I have thought about dropping weight. I have yet to do it but think I will try and set that weight tonight.

Does it seem like bucks are holding velvet longer this year or is it just me?

Not sure how your recovery is supposed to go but I would think shooting 70 might be a little easier on your body after having your surgery. Plus since you will be doing a lot of your hunting in the colder months 80 might be pretty tough to draw back after you have been sitting still in the cold for a few hours. Hell 70 can be pretty tough sometimes in december!

But if you stick with 80 lbs I would agree with others you need to move to a 300 if you are going to keep shooting 80 lbs.

I haven't had a chance to take a drive around my area to check on the velvet but just judging from Facebook pics in my feed I would say it does seem a tad late to still see velvet pics.
