For the first time ever I find myself wishing that the Corn in a paticular spot would go unpicked for the first week of Oct. I have been watching a 140's 9 point and his buddy 125ish from a spotting scope. There are two small wood lots that I gained permission to hunt on, one with corn on three sides and one with corn on two sides, RR tracks and a river on another side and a Big ditch seperates them both from the Bean field. This buck, the 140, IMO will hold tight to the area until the Corn gets picked then its likely asross the field to the mamoth woods witch is my lease. If he's still there come Oct 1, I stand a good chance, stay Corn stay!! The 125 is safe
You know for the first time I was thinking the same thing this year. I've been hunting this farm since 2007 and finally the crop rotation is in my favor. Past years I was just staring at the neighbors standing corn while I hunted over wheat or rye fields. It sucked to say the least. I've been trying to figure out how to hunt this one spot because the deer are using this little area between a pond, timber and cornfield to walk. There are no trees close by. I recently decided I am going to set up on the ground in some tall grass and weeds nearby. I have some camo netting that I am going to pound two stakes in the ground to hold up the camo netting and sit right behind it. My plan is to draw behind the netting and then just shoot over the top of the netting. We will see how it works. The grass and weeds will be just enough to break up my outline I think at least for early season.
Have the corn in my state, the smallest state (De) has been picked already. Goose hunters want it down.
I'm with you here. I would love it if the corn was up into December, however won't be the case this year.
I actually perfer standing corn. Great to hunt and a lot of bucks survive rifle season on account of it. Good luck on the 140 !! Tim
I had corn in the second week of December so I say take the corn OUT because I am still a hater from last year!
