30% unemployment because of why?? could it be the auto industry??? i don't see this as some fault of the education system there...
Then tell the parents....."We're gonna discipline your child, if he/she acts inappropriately in school. Your choice, mom. Either send them here to learn (with the understanding that they'll be held accountable).....or keep 'em at home". What's not to love?
Been there. I was these kids you are all talking about. I HATED SCHOOL. My parents were asked by the local public school system to, "Find alternate education for the next school year." They put me in a private school, from 10-12th grades, it didn't change anything though. It wasn't that I wasn't learning. It was that I didn't want to sit in a classroom, and read about how life works. I do not learn like that. Can't learn like that, and will not learn like that. Then I enlisted, and went to Boot Camp (Marines)... I learned like that. Fortunatly enough, I found out that: 1) I didn't have a choice. 2) If I made a choice, and still didn't want to learn like that, I would be dead soon. 3) They kept #2 hidden from me with a constantly changing environment. I never got bored. (Yes, they did tell me I had ADD when I was a youngin'... they told everyone they had ADD when I was a kid. If you looked at the ceiling, you had ADD) I assure you there has GOT to be more kids out there like me, whether they are in the BEST private schools, or the most poorly ran, "ghetto" schools, I assure you I could pick them out. They are the ones that show NO potential in life, but I bet you anything, that if you took them out of those BS classroom settings, and put them out somewhere to learn REAL WORLD applications. They would pass the BS exams with little to no problems. Little Jimmy isn't doing very good with fractions? Teach him how to cook! Cut recipies down, and get him to make something. Hell, just find something that he IS interested in, and use that! I would have never, NEVER passed Algaebra in school. I was a complete bastard when it came to authority. Now? I'm okay at it, I just have to put it into word problems, or apply it to my life some how.... Okay, I still doubt I could pay attention in a classroom setting, given certain cercumstances, but... that's neither here nor there... lol. Okay... I forgot what I was going to get too... but I have typed farrrr too much to delete this... I know it probably doesn't make sense. Just think about Chewbaca and move on to my next thing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3Q_ZKOcwbE Well, that's easy. Just have them take one of those big tests, right before they get out of school... SAT, CAT? Hell, no. Give them the ASVAB, and find them a job right there!!! lol.
Agree Germ and Jeff. Spoiled little brats Is 3/4ths of the kids today. Touch me and I'll sue. Where does that come from? THEIR PARENTS!!! I'd love to see a study done with adults who came from farm families and adults who were from the bigger cities. Do this study when they turn 30 years old. What's their work ethic like now? How successful are they now?
Is it? Why then is he doing the job? Why run? Do you honestly think that it is his passion for America? Is it his driving Patriotism? The belief that the US is the greatest country and to serve as president is the perfect cap to a career in politics? The motivation may not only be the money that he stands to earn, not alone anyway, but a blind man could see that serving as President of the United States is not the driving force behind the man. He is an arrogant individual that is so wrapped up in himself that he can not see past his own desires and serve the will of the people. All presidents can do well after their terms, yeah. But, most were doing very well before their terms too. It would worry me if they did not do well following their presidency.
If that study was done on a MI farm boy when he turned 30, he will have been smoking for 22 years, fathered 3 children with the girls from the local trailer park, living with his parents, and collecting unemployment after the local gas station let him go for showing up drunk one too many times. :D
Ha Haaa Nothing wrong with that, It's where my oldest got his first job. Right out of basic stright to the first Gulf War.
I would vote for this guy. Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America . Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to..... This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these: First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known. Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American. Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ' 60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated their time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks. We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude??? Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks. Let him go to Altoona ? And Johnstown , and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy Leaguerecruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.? Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America ? Is it really white America 's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent? Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself? As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence.. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time? Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse? We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena . And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing. Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago. We are a Christian Nation even if Mr.Obama says we are not. And no, I am not predjudice(sp) , just honest.
Mad... For the record....I think you're (and they are) forgetting who rounded up the slaves and sold them to the slave traders. Here's a hint....they weren't white.
99.9% of black Americans today have no idea what slavery is. By the way, my post (quote) is not aimed strictly at blacks, but anyone who takes advantage of PEOPLE in general. I am so sick of all the whining, sniveling crap about what all "we" had to go thru "back then". I am not even looking at back then. I am looking at right now, and the tomorrow America may, or may not afford my children/grandchildren. Undeserving wretch's are drawing a check every month and doing drugs by the pounds, and we are paying for it. I say if you can not submit to random/continual drug screens, proof of job search, proof of continuing education, etc., then my friend, you don't get JACK CRAP!!! Is Obama trying to "fix" those issues? No, he is giving away more money than anyone ever has. And who is to benefit? You? Me? Get an education. Get a job. If you have to have Gov't assistance, you have to submit to all of the rules above. If you can't do that, Bye-Bye, See Ya, Adios Amigo, So Long Ding Dong. jmho
Detroit has 50% + drop out rate. Most who work in the auto industry do not live in Detroit Jeff I have seen kids start out with the world in their hands and screw it up. Some kids make it out, and what is the ONE thing they all have in common? The ones who made it out? It was either a parent, teacher or mentor who help them. There is no "magic" bullet to fix the issues we have. It took us a long time to get into this mess and it's going to take us a time to get out. What is the plan for all the kids who get left behind? Gangs? I know a trade school, wait we want cheap products so we outsource all those Jobs. Will build more roads and bridges that lead nowhere This is way I am an independant these days, neither side has the solutions to fix diddle IMO.
Well that makes it all better Lord have mercy, it's come to the above. That's like saying Well officer it was not me who made the gun, it was by the white guys at smith & wesson. If they would not have made it, I would have not shot anybody.
does the dropout rate a result of no social promotion?? what's the point of giving a diploma to someone who did not earn it?? now i totally agree that a parent that is involved in their kids education GREATLY increases the kids chances... i don't let my kid swim on his own, its a learning process and i'm intimately involved in his school work...
