Check out campbell cameras.... they have some nice little starter kits with mostly everything you will need. There are some must as a solo filmer.... this is like doing two full time jobs at once! Having a lanc controller is a must and a solid camera arm and fluid head are as well.

Go to Walmart and check them out. They have the best prices.

Get a good camera arm and fluid head. It may run you $300 for the combo, but it will definitely be worth it. ($200 for the arm and $100 for the head)

There are alot of good camcorders out there...the biggest thing to look for is an easy to use manual focus control...this is the most important thing other than the picture quality. Sony cameras are very good in low light conditions which is also very important for obvious reasons.

The LANC controler is very helpfull too...as others have mentioned.

Def get a camera arm. HD cameras are really coming down, I have a set up just like cambells lower ends, but only have half as much in it as they charge.
