Going to put out an acre and a half of turnips today in standing corn. Where I hunt has no places to put food plots inside the timber and no clearings but the landowner is awesome enough to let me use the edges of his corn and soybean fields to put some in back in the corners and pockets along the timber. Since the crop is still up and won't be out for awhile depending on weather and time it's hard to get a plot in that's growing and useable between harvest and the beginning of hunting season. So, I got to thinking, some of the cattle farmers who also have corn and beans will have turnip seeds flown on by plane while the corn is still standing and the usually have great results in entire fields with it so....I will be using a hand spreader and will try walking the rows in the area I want to spread the seeds. Hopefully with harvest being a month and half away they will come up nice and I'm thinking the standing corn will protect it a bit till harvest. Had a light rain this morning so the ground is damp now and its suppose to rain a little more later this afternoon so I better get started!!
