Well thanks for joining this forum.

First, go to a local bow shop. They usually have some used bows around and they can help you get set up. They can also get you a bow that will grow with you. But at 6' tall I do not know how much you've got to grow. Also if there are any other guys you know, ask what they use. Get as much info as you can before you drop any cash on a bow. Also, do not go with to heavy of a draw weight since at a young age it would be easy to tear up your shoulders.

Look at a Bowtech Edge. They are great beginner bows, and a big plus is that you can have the limbs changed, increasing the poundage. Plus you get a new string when you send out to them. My kid shot the Edge this yr, and that will be his new bow. He's also 14, at 5'10.

    ganndolf,
Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy bowhunting as much as the other folks on this forum. You are at a perfect age to start. I second madhunters advice. Be sure to go to a local shop, you tend to get better service and advice than the big stores such as Bass Pro. When you get to the point that you want to start hunting out of a tree stand look at a good quality climbers. I find climbers to be some of the safest stands on the market because it is easy to have your safety harness on at all times. Treestand accidents tend to happen when people are getting in and out of their stands. With hang ons I believe many hunters don't hook up their harness until they have climbed onto their platform. Climbers are also very cost effective. They allow you to hunt many different locations. Since your on this forum your obviously savvy with the web. If you like ebay, that is a great way to pick up a Summit or Lone Wolf climber. I understand they are pricey and may not be an option for you now, but when you get to that point I think they are great. I prefer the Lone Wolf Hand Climber. Lightweight and easy.

Finally, have fun with this sport and enjoy being out there. There is a lot of information out there that focuses on trophy hunting, big deer. That is fine but starting out it is easy to get wrapped up in all of that hub bub. Just have fun and work to kill a doe or anything legal. They can be just as big of a trophy as a big deer. Have fun with it and try to soak up as much info as possible.

As suggested, shoot as many bows as you can. Don't feel like you have to get a super heavy draw weight either. With todays bows, even 50-55 lbs is plenty for most anything you'll need hunting wise... One suggestion (since your still growing) would maybe be to look at a bow that you can change the draw length without having to buy additional moduals.

Would stink to have to buy new moduals just to change your draw length every year for the next several years....
