So I am bow hunting public land this year for the first time. I currently only have 1 spot 10 acre within 2 hours that I can bow hunt so I thought I would try out public land. I did some research about hunting public and went out and scouted it a couple of days ago. I went to the hardest to access terrain and actually noticed that the deer sign increased as I got further. I found some beds on small islands in the marsh and some solid trails coming in and out. I know that you want to hunt these trails leading from the beds but there aren't any solid trees nearby. The only trees are right on top of the bedding area. The land requires you to be 6 feet off the ground so I can't use a ground blind.

Would trying to sneak in while the deer are out feeding and hunting the bedding area be a good idea or will it just spook out the deer? I am only allowed to hunt it for 1 week so would it be worth it? Where would you place the stands if the nearest treestand capable tree is about 200 yards away and is in a mediocre spot? Any advice on this situation or public land hunting, in general, would be great.

It's aggressive but you only have a week soooo....it sounds like one of those "you gotta do whatchu gotta do" situations. If you know where their food source is, and you can make it in with the wind to your advantage, you may be good. What do you have to lose?

I don't worry as much about bumping deer on the way in, my biggest concern is getting busted on the way out.

Yep, if you only have a week to hunt it, get aggressive. Sneak in early, clean and quiet, low light, and get right where they're bedding down. They'll still be feeding most likely. Lots of folks are scared to get that close, but it can be done. Also, play the wind. Even if it causes you to walk around your elbow to get to your butt, could be incredibly worth it if you're able to harvest a mature, public land deer. Good luck man! Keep us updated.

If you're taller than 6-ft you could still-hunt the trail.
