They are all different. I use a NAP Apache that works great. If you can go to a pro shop and try some out, that's usually the best thing to do. I know my shop will let you try them out to see if they help. Also, a stabilizer can really help with accuracy. Especially at distance. Don't be afraid to buy a longer stab if it helps as long as it doesn't have adverse effects when it comes to noise. I know a guy who is using a 14" Doinker to hunt with. He has no issues with it getting in the way. I use to think of a stab as a silencing accessory but, now look at all the advantages when choosing one. Weight, where the weight is located, how it effects your hold on target and if it helps with noise. If you can find one that helps with all of this then that's what you want. I am a fan of the higher end stabs that you can add weights to. I will be purchasing a Stokerized 10" that I will be using for 3D for accuracy but, also adding silencers to also hunt with. Why? That's what I have found works best on my bow with me shooting it.
You make some good points when i first got into shooting i wanted something that would make my bow silent. But now after learning a few things im looking for a new one that would give me the things you described. How did you like your Apache? I was looking at it for my next one maybe but i havent picked yet. Sent from my HTC Hero S
It's great for noise reduction but, even with the extension piece to make it 8" I can't tell much if any difference n the way of actual stabilization. It doesn't have much weight to it. Thats the case for most of the "hunting" stabs I've tried don't do much for stability actually. Now, the companies that make competition stabs and hunting stabs, theirs seem to actually stabilize and reduce noise and vibration. Most companies offer Bow Jax silencers to put on their stabs and they help greatly.
Thanks im trying to find a decently priced stabilizer that will help with actual stabilizing as well as noise reduction.
KTech on all my bows. Tech 5 of Tech 7 is a good place to start. FWIW, the best way to quiet your bow is to shoot a heavier arrow.
I'm a fan of the Axion stablilizers. Built with harmonic dampeners and come in tons of sizes. I shoot stubby one currently, but plan on possibly going to a longer design which should do more stabilizing than just dampening.
My fiance just bought me a Fuse Carbon blade, and I LOVE it, has been working great on my monster. I went from shooting the 4" Axion to the 11" blade, i am very impressed and its working out really well
