Okay, so I'm not really getting any response to my topic in the reviews section so I thought I'd post here and see if I could get some input. I know that the stabilizer for one helps stabilize, but also helps absorb shock, vibrations, and keep kinetic energy going forward. One thing I wasn't for sure about is how specific the weight of the stabilizer needs to be. How do I know what weight is best for me? I'm seriously considering buying an Octane 7" stabilizer at about $50. Before I do invest in it, I'd like to get some input from people on how important a stabilizer really is, and if I should be spending that much money on one. Have any of you guys heard anything about this specific stabilizer or currently use it?

I've been a longtime user of Stealth Archery's stabilizers because they seem to be a perfect complimentary weight for me and have exceptional dampening properties.

Having said that, though... when BowTech came out with the Octane line of stabs, I immediately put them head-to-head with the Steatlh offerings and was pleasantly surprised; I really like how you can add weight to the end of the stab and keep it looking "factory" at the same time, and I think the piston action has some merit to it (it's designed to move forward at the shot, instead of oscillating around every which direction). The inner tube is filled with a proprietary sound-dampening material, and does more than an adequate job.

For the price, I think it compares very nicely with anything out there. I put them on my last three bows, and I've got enough other stabs sitting around (including the aforementioned Stealths as well as some high-end Doinkers) that I could have put anything on them I wanted.

Thanks for the response Greg, I think I'm going to invest in the Octane. It looks really sharp and the technology sounds pretty solid. If I don't like it I can always just sell it on eBay and get most of my money back.

    Hey Brandon,

During lunch I went to the local Sportsmans warehouse and asked them about the octane....they didn't know about them, but did have them in stock, the guy said for me to bring my bow by and he would let me shoot it on my bow to make my decision....

If you have a bow shop around you may want to see if they will work w/ you before droppin 50.

Yea I'm sure my local bowshop will let me try it out before I buy it. Heck, they took a brand new bow out of the box and mounted a rest on it to let me try it out because they didn't have one on display. I'll have to check it out this weekend.

Now I'm a CHEAP SOB, but I have a $10 Eastman's Outfitter Carbon Rod Stab on all 3 of my shooter bows, and in comparison to the old X-ring, Shock Blocker, S-Coil, etc. stab's I've used, I think it's as good, and much cheaper. Not saying it's the same or comparable to the Octane in someone else's hands, but it meets my needs, and at $10 it's quite affordable.

I went to another shop this morning and talked to the guy....here is what he said..."Octane makes good stuff....but unless your bow has an issue youd be waisting the mulla"

My bow is quiet, smooth, fast accurate, no vibration.....I simply just like to upgrade and the way it looks....so instead of a new stabilizer I fed my need by buying a pack of 100 grain G5 Montecs.

Yea I can see where you're comin from with paying $50 for the octane. I'll probably try some cheaper ones and see how they compare as well. I don't have the option of not buying one, because currently the bow I just bought doesn't have one on it. I'll let ya know if I can tell any difference between them when I shoot it this weekend.

I went ahead and bought the Octane stabilizer just because it's made by bowtech and they make good products. I'm satisfied with it so far. If I were you long beard I would just go ahead and buy the Sims S-coil. It's not too expensive, and worked well also.
