hey everyone. i own a bear lights out, its a starter bow for me. when i got it last christmas, i accidently crossthreaded the stabilizer and when i finally got it out the threading on the bow got all f***ed up. not worried about the stabilizer cause i can always get a new one. my question is can i get the bushing retapped on my bow in the same hole? or will they have to drill another hole for the stablizer?
I dont see why not. As long as there is a form of what used to be threads then they should clean up. Only thing is it may not fit super tight due to the loss of some material. Which would kinda defeat the stabilizer.
Hey Guys... what if he took it to a machine shop - to see if they could drill out the bushing and then Loctite in an insert to accept his stabilizer? YES / NO / MAYBE ???
the stablizer dont matter to me. its just a trophy ridge one that came with the bow. i heard on the web that most of threading on bows is universal for all/most stablizers so if they could just repair it to what ever size it should be that would be fine. the trophy ridge one i have is also chewed up from the incident because we had to use channel locks to get em out (it was actually my brother who ****ed it up, idk how he screwed it in that tight, hes got a couple bows and shoulda known what he was doin) so i have to get a new stablizer anyway so i dont want it tapped to fit that one.
No need to see a machine shop, Go to any autopart store and get a helicoil kit. It wll come with the drill-bit, the tap, and the inserts. Costs about $35.00. I use them all the time, the repair is stronger than the original threads.
Not sure how your bear is done but on my hoyts, the stabilizer hole is inserted. If so it is a matter of removing the old and installing a new one. I don't think that is the case with the bear though. I am a machinist / tool maker and taking it to a machine shop will be your best bet. They can drill it STRAIGHT and heli- coil it for about the same cost a kit will cost you. Most likely minimum 1 hour labor. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
ok well the recent posts were reassuring. thanks everyone. and no its not an insert. just a drilled hole. your hoyt is probably a lil better made
