Looks like from 2003 to the end of 2011. Caught hacking and stealing information from Houston. Maybe they will not win the 2006 and 2011 World Series after all: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...uis-cardinals-hacking-houston-astros-database
Here's the NYT piece that broke the news which I posted in the MLB thread. This definitely deserves it's own though. http://nyti.ms/1BkcUhW Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Any direct/indirect/negotiations with Houston from 2003 to 2011? Record against Houston from 2003 to 2011?
I've been busy today, so I admit I haven't been able to fully read everything out there, but it's my understanding this started sometime after the 2011 season when Lunhow was hired by the Stros. We'll see what happens. If it goes all the way up to the higher brass then they deserve stiff penalties. I don't understand why they would leak the information out last year if the front office was involved. I'm trying not be biased since I'm a big Cards fan, but if they're guilty they deserve whatever they get.
Is anyone surprised anymore from politics to Wall Street, the NFL look at today's headlines on Walmart hiding billions of taxable income. It's everywhere yet no one gets banned or jailed they get to go about there business after the fans pay for there mistakes with higher ticket prices. Since the whole team benefits from winning with a stacked deck how about forfeit the rest of the season games. That way everyone gets a taste of cheating from the owners sponsors players fans and fire all that's involved. Gain back some respect
I love everything about this story. They "hacked" the astros because the guys that left the cardinals in 2011 used the same passwords in Houston as they did in St. Louis. Best yet, they didn't even take anything as what they were looking at was a system that was developed by the guys who left St. Louis for Houston.
Hate to say it but every team in every sport is probably bending the rules (knowingly or unknowingly) which would be considered cheating and is getting away with it. I also bet that every team has at least one player who is using banned drugs or performance enhancement and is getting away with it. Is it only cheating if we find out about it? A team that cheats is just like a ref or ump deciding not to call a penalty/strike on a certain play which ultimately alters the result of a game. When you think about it, sports is all one big game of chance.
Yes, this story is just filled with extreme stupidity from both sides. The "hack" was allegedly done from their own house too. Apparently Luhnow ruffled a few feathers while he was in STL, if I remember right, disagreements with him and sabermetrics ultimately led to the firing of Walt Jockety, as well as other incidents with "old time" baseball guys. The Cards front office is separating themselves from this as much as possible, so we'll see if it was the actions of a rouge employee who had the info with some bitter feelings towards Luhnow, or if the front office is lying. Given the statements released by both the Cards and Astros yesterday, I'm willing to say a rouge employee or something along those lines, but who knows at this point. For the record, Luhnow is a brilliant talent evaluator. All of the pipeline of Cardinals players up until Wacha were guys he drafted or signed. He left around the same time Pujols did, and I thought then that losing Luhnow was a bigger blow than losing Pujols. I could see a scout/player development guy trying to get access to his work.
