anybody hear about the Hawkeye players who had to go to the hospital who were trying this??? you get two hours.... not body squats, but what you weigh on the bar. for me: 285# squats would be no problem, prob just do 10 sets of 10, but the bench is where i would struggle told a few of my SEAL buddies i kick around with about the boys getting sick and of course they saw it as a challenge. BUT they are gonna try and do it in less than an HOUR!!!!!!!! what?????????????? i'll let you know how they turn out!
bench would kill me... push ups however that is an easy number... a seal would be able to crack that off in about 40 mins with pushups... most of those guys are skinny little suckers, but very strong...
It would be a challenge for sure. But depending on how much you actually lift/weigh determines how hard it would be. Me for instance, I'm 5'5 and roughly 155 pounds. But my bench max is 265-270. A bigger person would definitely have a harder time doing it, but it is possible.
they had a recruit do 138 push-ups yesterday, which i thought was very impressive! yeah not sure what exactly the iowa kids came down with but essentially their tissue was eating itself! 13 were hospitalized... suppose i could google it http://www.dailyiowan.com/2011/01/27/Metro/20917.html#
Wow, hell of a challenge that would be. My senior year I weighed 160lbs, my top bench was 260lbs. I didn't work out much In the weight room, all farm work (bailing hay and ect). 1OO times though doing my own weight? Would've been fun trying but I really doubt It.
That's pretty interesting. At my best point I could do a single rep max of 1.9x my body weight. 10 sets of 10 over 2 hours....I bet I'd have been real close. I probably would have handled the squats, but there is no guarantee. Even though I am 10# lighter than the weight I was above, I haven't lifted in so long I would not have a prayer at the bench. Maybe still an outside chance at the squat.
When I was in lifting shape, I could have done the 100 squat thing no problem. The bench would have been an issue. I weighed about 225 lbs and benched just a tad over 400. I probably could do 5-6x10 at 225 lbs on the bench before things started to get a little bit iffy. I would have struggled to get the remaining 40-50 after my chest tightened up. THESE days, not a prayer on any of it, and that is fine with me.
At age 35 I reached my goal of benching 300 lbs, I was 190lbs. To bench 190lbs 100 times my arms would have fallen off
Thank you, I used to be a meat head. I am now a middle aged father of three whose body has been torn to shreds from all kinds of sports. That being said, I still have a little lightening left in my veins.
I hope you mean 4 minutes, because in 40 minutes a lot of those guys could do a couple THOUSAND pushups!!! That recruit is pretty damned impressive!!! In all my time in the Army, even the few guys that routinely scored 300's on their PT tests, the MOST I saw pushed out was 114 in 2 minutes!!! As to the IOWA thing, Rhabdomyolysis, that isn't really tissue eating itself, it's muscles that were broken down, and then causing kidney damage, likely as a result of severe overworking, or another potential cause can be creatine supplements, combined with dehydration. I've treated more than a few knuckleheads with it, even saw one young soldier die because there was just nothing more they could do for him by the time we got him. They saw tissue eating tissue, but it's not exactly what it it, what happens is due to the muscle damage, the area swells SEVERELY, and then causes compartment syndromes, which is a condition in which the muscle is bound by the membrane, however the swelling inside the muscle is so extreme that the pressure of that swelling kills more cells that would've not been damaged has the swelling not been an issue. It's a very painful and potentially DEADLY situation. I know a couple of DI's were relieved of their duty after the aforementioned young basic trainee died from this condition after having had a heat stroke, and being denied to go to sick call!!!
I felt pretty studly doing 225 17 times last week...most I've ever done. I doubt I could get 191 lbs 100 times.
In my early-mid 20s, it was possible. Now, not even close. I lift for different reasons. I weigh around 160, consistently. I have benched that 25 times before, to win a bet. 100 reps still sounds insane. That was at least 7 years ago. I lift a lot lighter now. I think the squats would have been possible. Doing 100/100 in 1 hour is crazy. Interested in hearing the results. And while we are chest thumping, my best one rep max is 285...again, at least 7 years ago. My new goal is 301, so I can beat Germ.
There was a time when I would have been able to do the squats no problem. No way on the bench presses. I think the most I could do in repetitions was 90lbs. (and I could do like four.... ) I used to be able to do pushups with one hand... Now my shoulder hurts even when I'm just sitting around. Getting old (and fat) bites... Wii is about my speed now. :D
