Has anyone ever installed their own sprinkler system? How hard was it? Would you do it again?

HA! Not getting soft. We may sell the house in the near future and are making a few improvements. I'm doing a bunch of landscaping right now and thought maybe I would install a sprinkler system. Because we lived in Canada during the late spring to early fall for years we never did anything with the yard. I hate it, but it needs to be done.

Hell I thought you were talking about putting out fires!

Really, who ever thought it a good idea to make grass grow on purpose.

I agree. I wouldn't care if we didn't live in a subdivision, but we do and we may want to sell the house next year so I'm trying to make it look decent outside. I would rather do it myself than pay someone to install it for me.

Zero here at the house. Its pretty sandy with about 6" of topsoil over most of the lawn.

I've done it it's not bad if you rent a ditch witch. It will spread the pipe under the ground with no damage to your lawn just a small line where it's buried that you can throw some seed over. When it's time for the wiring and hook up to water I would have a professional. Or if you know how your all set. But the ditch witch is a amazing machine look it up on YouTube!!!

You still have to dig in all the valve boxes and heads even though you are trenching in the pipe.

I did my yard. It's not hard at all. Hind sight I wouldn't put more than 4 heads on each line. Water pressure issues. Cost me about 500. Would have cost 2500 if I let a "pro" do it.

Correct. I thought you were talking about putting all the lines in.

How big is your yard? We're on a 3/4 acre lot. Two years ago I got a quote from one company that was $4250. That also included putting in a new 1 hp well pump because ours is too small. I have three different installers giving me bids between now and early next week, so it will be interesting what it would cost now.
