I am still struggling to find a spring food source. Was looking at Whitetail institute Power Plant and Bio Mass as possible source for roughly 2 acres. Located seed company that ships Power Plant 2 acres for roughly $130, anyone used these products? I'm doing this from afar, Arizona to Ohio so was looking for feedback on success of these products if anyone has used them. Have large 10 acre field, and 6 smaller fields ranging 1/4-1 acre scattered. There are 3 fields that join the big 10 acre. Across creek bottom it sounds like neighbors are doing corn and alfalfa which will pull from our bedding. I would really like to establish some spring food for the deer but $ is a concern. Fall plots will not be an issue and we have plenty of good kill plots. With that large of field 10 acres, what reccomendations are there? Should I just hold off till August/September? Also was looking at putting up some mineral sites and curious to what others use?
Spring oats are fairly cheap. Maybe do a mixture of oats and clover for spring and summer feeding. Recommended planting rate for oats is 60- 80 lbs per acre. 60 lbs of oats and 6-8 lbs of Ladino or medium red clover would be a nice mix. Monster Raxx is a mineral I would recommend. Low salt and high calcium & phosphorus mineral that the deer love along with many other important minerals for lactating does and antler development. I have multiple sites from last year that the deer have dug holes in the ground. They are really hitting them hard right now since reactivating them this spring.
