We're in the process of transforming a mature woods by downing larger tree's and hinge cutting bedding areas to get sunlight and browse to grow. We are adding a couple smaller food plots and plan to plant a clover chicory blend in the spring. We are buying the blend from Northwoods whitetails. We are also going to plant a "loggers trail Mix",sold by Deer Creek Seed in Wisconsin, on trail and travel corridors. Loggers blend is a mix of Fescue, Dutch white clover, ryegrass and Alsike White Clover. We are also going to broadcast grazing alfalfa into the bedding areas.

This is our first attempt at a habitat improvement project. We are excited to see how it turns out. We realized we were not holding any deer on our property due to the mature nature of the woods. We developed our strategy for this year simply by watching Youtube videos from Jim Ward, Jeff Sturgis and Jeff Brauker for tons of excellent information. I've watch hours of videos from these guys and they are great.

    Good Luck

Go to a local feed mill and buy a mix of clovers, if there is a buck on the seed package you are over paying.
