Is there a certain temperature or snow level that the bears in your area pretty much need to get; in order to get them out of their dens? I am a little concerned about my season (at my home) if falls from April 15th till May 15th I believe.. I sure hope the bears are even out and about? What do you guys see and experience in regards to the right conditions for getting bears on their feet in the spring?

Now my best bear area (100+miles away) is much more flexible with an April 15th to June 30th season..

Availability of food. Once things start to green up even a little you can count on big boars coming out. Younger bears and sows and then sows with cubs will follow. I try to get out early for that reason. Some real big boars here don't even den. We just got a record snowfall yesterday with more dumping in the mountains as I type so I'm probably not going to bother going out on the April 1st opener. I will be up in my friend's plane looking for freshly opened dens the following week though and I know for sure of one big bear that hasn't denned but he's hanging in a no hunting zone.

Not sure how much this says as we've been gone of snow for some time now, but only in the last couple weeks have the temps started to warm slightly and our bears are coming out. They've been hitting the trash cans of a lady I work with. THey have trail cams out to take pics of them.

Thanks guys, No green up here yet.. thats gonna roll around in weeks to come.. this may play out well then.. April 15th opener here.

Rob thanks for the info and good luck, I looked at griz hunts at the big horn show in Spokane last week, I couldnt find anything for under 10,000 bucks for a non-res like myself.. its one hunt, I hope to get to do before I am done.

Ryan do you have a spring season in PA? draw?

No spring bear here. Probably something I'll never see in this state in my lifetime.
Our fall season has no appeal to me either. 3 day gun season, that's mostly a drive-fest.(some areas its a week longer)
2-3 DAY bow season that doesn't include a weekend and no baiting allowed.
In my eyes there is no point in hunting bears here, despite a pretty decent population we have.
