Has anyone spray painted a trail cam before? How do you do it? Just put tap over lens and flash etc and paint? Do the deer smell the paint or does it take awhile to get the spray paint smell off the camera?

I spray all my homebrews. I am sure the deer can smell them at first, but they have never seemed to be afraid of them. I just tape off all of the glass, and the fresnal, and spray away.

    Camo tape works well.

Set the cams outside to air out along with giving them a spray down with a scent killer spray.

Camo tape fads and turns bluish green from the suns uv.

I'd buy some camo tape before I'd ever spray paint them. The paint will stink for awhile and will come off over time.

You might check and see if painting effects the warranty of your cams also

Yep, spray paint all of my home brews. Deer don't seem to mind.

Spray paint it like a lot of others have said. I had a big green Moultrie camera and a badly faded BuckEye Cam that I just taped over the important parts, spray painted with brown primer and then made cut outs to add in flat black jagged lines and branches. Lightly oversprayed with gray primer to cut the darkness of the black some. Just like anything you may spray paint; treestand, ground blind, etc. you just have to give it time before the scent goes away. Camo tape is just a mess to deal with, it fades fast and can start peeling from the sunlight.

Actually if you use the tape that's more like cloth on the face it really holds up well. I have even used mud in the past to knock down the factory shine.
