Went out today to start fine tuning the bow for deer season. Started out spot shooting groups of 3. I just was not getting as good of groups as I know I can shoot. So I switched to my bag target with the deer killzone on it. I was getting excellent groups at 20-30 yds, and all killshots at 40. I was even practicing holding for different lengths of time before the shot. I know they say to spot shoot to improve accuracy, but it just doesnt seem to work for me. I seem to stack arrows when I am not trying to focus on a spot.

Anyone else have problems spot shooting?

same here. I shoot almost exclusively vitals or 3d.

I don't know if this is the reason in your case but I believe it is sometimes caused by trying to hold the pin steady on the exact spot rather than letting the pin float on the target and the bigger the area you shoot at the more likely you are to let it float which allows you to relax instead of being tense and rigid trying to hold still, its easier to float on an 8" circle than a 1" circle. I know I've heard it 10000 times aim small miss small but if it makes you torque the bow it does no good.

I can not shoot dots but am deadly on 3d. Sounds like the same thing you have. I should probably try floating my pin.

Even if you're not dead-on, I would still think that spot shooting would greatly factor into your ability to shoot tighter groups while zone shooting.

The only time I shoot spots are when they are on a tender lil doe fawn.

I am the same way, hard for me to hit circles, bring out the deer and it is easy. They say aim small miss small, but htat doesn't seem to be the case for me.

I'm sort of the same way. I will shot spots at 20,30 and 40, but when I push it back further, I switch to vitals. I can shoot a tighter group at 60 yards on the vitals than I do at 40 yards shooting spots. I think it's because I'm trying to be to perfect, holding on the spot. At 60 yards, I couldn't even see the spot, so I shoot the vitals and stack arrows on top of each other.

Shot anxiety is what's causing this. Learn to trust the float and leave the shot execution to your subconsious and you will improve drastically.

This is most likely the case but one other issue might be pin size is covering the dot and you are not seeing the dot well enough.

Sliding the pin up the leg always helps me, that's why I like vitals targets. I stink at spot shooting, guess it's because there is nothing around there for me to get a reference.

Pin size is small, and super bright. I guess I just don't understand why I would have anxiety spot shooting, but can stack arrows when shooting vitals target. I mean, my groups are not horrible on the spots, but they are not as tight as the vitals. Like just got done shooting, and at 20 yds, I had 4 shots in the heart touching. At 30 yds I had 3 in the hear touch and the other 2 were close. Switch over to the spot, and had 3 that were fairly close, and the other 2 just on the edge of the spot. Its not like it is horrible groups, just a noticeable difference between the spot, and vital targets.
