Does anyone run a spot hog sight? I am in the market for a new sight, but there is so much out there. The spot hog stuff looks pretty cool but I can't tell if there is the standard fiber optic coil or strand for "extra" light gathering. My main question I guess is, are they dimmer than most? I notice they sell fiber optic add on kits. So anyone with any experience with the sight let me know! Or if you have something that works great for you, I'd sure love to hear about it!
i have a Spot-Hogg hogg-It with wrap. this is a bullet proof sight and is plenty bright with the wrap. Check the classifieds right now, Rick James has one for sale at a smokin good price.
Also, check out the Viper Predator. I dont own it yet, but i've done all the research and I will be my next sight. It has optional light that threads into the housing (also threads into the sight guard if thats what youre into). The main reason I will buy it is because it has optional Zeiss lenses (2x,3x,4x and 6x) that thread on to the end of the sight. Many different models/prices to choose from. Good luck!
Spott Hogg makes EXCELLENT sites. Great build quality, great features. However, I really like the Viper line and Sword line of sights. Sword sites give you the most bang for your buck IMHO. Look into the Apex 3rd plane if you like a dovetail or the twilight hunter if you want a stationary sight bar.
I have spot hogg hunters. No cable wrap, the pins are bright enough for me. If it is lowlight and then I just use the dark dot.
I have heard they are very rugged, ultra precise and worth the money. In relation to pin brightness, anything with a fiber wrap will be much brighter. I use Truglo right now, which is very bright in low light and comes with light, but most likely I will upgrade somewhere in the near future. I had a G5, but was greatly disappointed with durability, ease of use, and pin brightness.
I've got five Spot Hogg Hunter Hogg Its, and sold a couple other Hogg Its over the last couple years. As mentioned above, they're absolutely bullet-proof in their construction and I love the worm-gear drives that gives them their adjustability. I would HIGHLY recommend ordering it with the Hogg Wrap. I retrofitted my first two, and ordered it standard on all the rest. Spot Hogg also gives you the option of custom pin configuration, allowing you to use different size pins for different yardages and you can request whatever pin colors you want as well. I'm sure they're not the only manufacturer which does this, but just putting it out there as an FYI. It's a nice touch to be able to order a sight EXACTLY as you want it.
The customization is pretty cool. I have not decided on a sight just yet, I want to fondle a few first I think! Also I did not know they had gears to make adjustments, that is SWEET!
