Does anyone use these hang ons? I am looking at getting a couple since they fit my budget(college student) and was wondering if anyone had an first hand experience. The reviews seem decent. Guide Gear 24x29 1/2" Hang-on Tree Stand - 158968, Hang On Tree Stands at Sportsman's Guide
I sat in one for 3 hours in north Indiana. My butt got numb at the 3 hour mark . So make sure if you get one, you have something to take in and sit on.
I haven't used that specific stand, but I have several that are similar. My biggest issue is the size of the seat. Most of the time I feel like I'm falling out because the seat is so small. I usually split time between sitting and standing. They are serviceable stands, just not comfortable. It will get the job done.
I have a few of them. They are easy to setup and no problem standing but I agree they aren't the most comfortable to sit on for long periods of time.
Spring the extra $20 for this one, sling style seat, arm rests, & foot rest: Guide Gear® Deluxe Fixed Tree Stand - 177427, Hang On Tree Stands at Sportsman's Guide
My buddy uses another option, he simply buys the smaller version of those stands and doesn't attach the seat. He uses something like this with them: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/getproductcartdata?AdId=686931 Stand he uses & stick for $63: Guide Gear® Climbing Stick and Tree Stand Combo - 160847, Hang On Tree Stands at Sportsman's Guide
I agree, the sling seats are much more comfortable. I have a couple stands with those type seats, and they are by far a more comfortable sit. Only problem I have is getting up quietly when a deer sneaks in on me. And, I have to hang my camera arm a little higher.
I bought this at Christmas time. I have yet to put it in a tree however, I do like the large platform. The seat seems comfortable however I'm worried it may make noise. But for the price, I feel it is a great deal!
I should clarify when he uses the trees seat with the stand he doesn't buy one for each stand he just buys one and brings it to and from the stand with him. Those sling seats on the other stands are much more comfortable but not too durable. Do yourself a favor and take them down after every season and spray them with something like DuPont rain shield or Rain-X. If you need to replace one a cheap replacement is to use cargo netting and heavy duty zip ties. Several "how-to" write ups for that available on line but it's pretty straight forward. I find the cargo net style seats very comfortable and quiet.
I have two or three of this size and like stated they are plenty serviceable but I do carry a seat in with me every hunt obviously. For the price I will probably continue to utilize SG stuff in various spots.
been using them for years... I have 3 or 4 of them and they stay out year round and have held up good. I do pull them and spray with rustoleum every so often though. I got one of the deluxe ones with sling seat... i didnt like it. I hate arm rest/rails and like stated the seat isnt very quiet. I have a LW Alpha and use that a lot along and have gotten away from the cheaper hang ons recently... I still use them n certain spots, but i put up a bunch of climbing sticks and use the LW to get in quick, easy, and quietly. In my eyes these stands are great for places you know you wont be in all day. They are not comfy and i will take an extra seat cushion, but still get tuff. If there is a place you need to get in very quick and quiet in the evening, those are the perfect place for those stands i think. Dont have to make a bunch of noise, might only be there for 2-3 hours. Get a few of them, you cant go wrong.
I just bought a big game horizon stand from sportsmans guide. They had it for 57.00. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
I agree with NEW. I have both stands. The $31 one kills my back. I really like the moveable seat of the other, it's like a recliner if you adjust it right, plus it has the same seat as my climber, which I really like. I would definitely upgrade to the Deluxe
