Did you know.... Joe Montana was actually trying to throw the ball away through the back of the endzone on "the catch" play to Dwight Clark in the 1982 championship game against the Cowboys? Didn't even see him through the defenders and was already thinking about the next down until he heard the roar from the crowd.
Something like similar happened to me in high school. (On a much smaller scale of course). I was playing goaltender on our high school hockey team, the opposing team had a penalty shot on me. After it was all over the crowd was cheering and I had no clue what had happened - after a good 3 seconds ( seemed like an eternity) I looked in my glove and there was the puck.
