WOW. I cannot believe someone has even asked for others opinion on this question. Poor mentality and definitely not hunting ethically. I'll just stop there as I'm too frustrated to say more. Gives hunters a bad name.
I saw one of these yesterday. Buddy missed high and the deer just pawed in a circle till he could get a 2nd shot off. He felt horrible and ill be honest, that really got to me. I felt horrible for the deer and for my friend. It was very sad to see that. I know they can happen but to do it intentionally is just ignorant. I have a soft spot for all animals, and yes I know we kill/harvest whichever makes you feel better about what we do. But I'll admit seeing that bothered me a lot. I hope to not see that again in a long time Be smart and take the ethical shot so the animal can expire quickly.
Last year I killed my first bow buck with a spine shot. Arrow went high. Hated every second of it. Luckily the way it worked out I was able to follow quickly with a second shot through both lungs but I doubt thats the norm. The was laying there with its head up looking straight at me the whole time. Had probably the worst feeling in the world while this was happening. Spine shots are never, ever under any circumstance something to strive for. If thats something you go after you shouldn't be allowed to own a weapon.
Thanks monsta. Don't think for a minute that I wouldn't have to check myself if in that situation, because I'm sure I would. Temptation can be a hard thing at that crucial time. I try to prepare myself mentally NOW so that I don't give in when the time comes. I can honestly say that a few years ago I was probably took cocky and thought I could make that shot. I know better now...old age setting in I guess. :D
