Im sitting here at work bored, looking for hunting videos to watch and I ran across the midwest whitetails website. I started watching the episodes. Some of them not to bad but then I saw one that kinda appauled me. I heard a boys father say he was going to start bowhunting. Then he said that the draw weight was something like 24lbs. Being from Ohio where legal shooting weight starts at 40 lbs, 24 seems awful low. Anyways I wanted to see how much penetration this bow would achieve. I try not to judge to many people but this 9 year old kid took a hard quartering towards shot. I, myself would never take that shot or a shot close to how the deer was standing. To me being a first year bow hunter and only shooting 24 lbs. waiting for that perfect board side shot would be almost a must. It also didnt seem like the arrow got too much penetration. However the deer did die within sight of the stand. I may be way off here, but somethings I just dont understand. Im sorry if I offend anyone, just had to vent a little.
yes it is a very gutsy shot, especially someone unexperienced and not using enough juice behind the bow. it can happen to us even who have more experience.
would almost seem unethical to shoot at a deer with only 24#. if your a hair off thats. just a wounded deer. the broadhead wouldnt do enough damage.
there had to have been someone around them or known their draw weight and use common sense on that kind of shot and conditions, maybe not (I don't know) they got lucky!
I would have to agree with you guys. All hunters (regardless of age) need to have the right tools to execute a proper shot (kill). I spent many of my early years in the woods observing during hunts. I learned from my observations and worked on my hunting skills until I was deemed ready to hunt. I believe we need to protect what we love by properly preparing the next generation of hunters.
That is just rediculous im no pro or season vet but to hunting but 24 lbs? let him practice with that and get him a crossbow till he can pull at least the state requirment
I thought the same thing but I went and looked up regs for Iowa where I thought they were hunting and there is no minimum weight requirement for compound bows.
It's a joke! @ 9 I had to use a recurve and pull 40lbs. I was not aloud to shoot anything except young does too. We are the ones that are supposed to teach all kids ethics, morals, and that hunting does not mean killing. How many of you sat in your spot and just watched game pass you by just because all you wanted to do was know that you could find them and stay undetected? I still go out and sit in the woods just to take pics too. @ 24lbs. his speed is probably only about 125fps and a kids arrow is about maybe 275 grains so his ken. is only about 9.50 what a shame.
The more I watch this show, the more Im not too sure I like it. There are some really questionable shots throughout this show.
I have been a fan of the show since it came out. It started with just the main show and then last year they branched off to the different states. I have to agree that some of the team members from different states took some really horrible shots last season. I mostly concentrate on the main show but there are a couple other states that I will tune in to theirs. Overall I still enjoy the show. Very informative I might say.
There are some informative bits on here and I love watching hunting regardless of what it is, but sometimes I just want to shake my head. Im going to continue to watch it, but to each his own I guess.
I really like the show too. But last year I really only watched the main show and not the state ones. I probably will this year though.
