Special Thanks RJ Now with Pics Just wanted to drop a shout out to Matt. Matt hosted me for a Saturday's hunt yesterday. He texted me other the day to see if I had plans for Saturday. Of course I was hunting LOL and he asked me up for the day. At first I turned him down due to the fact that I filled my doe tag which is in our same management area. I purposely buy this tag for his doe management but I wasn't going to pass my 3 legged doe and I didn't want to specifically target one of his bucks. He called me and being generous he wanted me to target one. Also, it gave him a chance to come down and hunt the property too so of course I agreed. We met at camp Friday night and with a wrong wind for most of his stands we decided on a game plan. He wanted me to set up in a wooden platform stand that "almost" always produces a buck sighting while he was to set up above me, just above what he refers to as the "nanny whacker" stand. (and that's proven correct). At first light a button came from his direction and with that sighting until we crawled out of the stands I had a deer within sight all morning plus a flock of turkeys. I had 3 buttons feeding on acorns under me most of the morning, an adult doe within range which doesn't know how lucky she was that I didn't have my tag anymore. Movement to my right showed me a nice little 8 point and then movement to his right showed me a dandy. Glassing an 8 point thrashing a tree was entertaining enough but to have him walk right in to 10 yards really questioned my senility. I had a dozen shots on a 90" 3.5 year old 8 point and I passed. Of course he was broken, missing his main beam just pass his G3. I saw 3 other bucks that came in after these two and the big 8 chased them all off with a challenge. The flock or hens that came in brought with them a bearded hen and I sSSooo wished the season would have been in. She offered several shots. Our evening sit showed Matt a gorgeous buck thrashing a tree off in the distance but other than that, chipmunks entertained me. I had a wonderful time Matt and am looking forward to sharing a hunt again in the future. Like I said, if my in season scouting puts me on a pile of deer, you'll be down here with me. Thanks again, it was a great day in the field with a good friend. This is the 3.5 year old 8 that I passed. This is after he left from under my stand to challenge the other bucks. It was tough even getting this one. I was in the process of getting my camera when he was under the stand. Sorry for the quality. The following is of a "rob" buck that I'll be interested in next year or year after. ;-)
Almost forgot. I have a few. As soon as I get off my lazy ass and go out and get my camera and upload them. Duh? :p
I wanna see those pics full size too! It was great to have you again Rob, on the road now but will post more when I get home.
I was wondering that also... But anyway, nice pics and it sounds like quite a hunt. Those are the kinds of sits I live for, wildlife everywhere.. Good stuff.
Very cool, Rob. I heard about you passing that deer through Ben. You have plenty of time left, and I'm looking forward to see what you put down. Matt has some great spots picked up there. Seems as though most everyone that goes hunting there sees quite a bit.
Knew you guys would have a great time. I was hoping one of you two would lay one down. NIce pics bud.
