If I were that guy in handcuffs my life's goal would have just become a second meeting with that cop, and at that point I would demonstrate what lunging is, and how when done properly and repeatedly causes great bodily harm.
If the good.people think and say these things, imagine what we have to deal with on a daily basis when working with people who really hate us.
I understand that, but can you dispute it? Is there a profession that does more to protect their own or does more to cover up misbehavior amongst themselves? I am being absolutely serious. It happens a lot, and it is obvious to everyone. Most of the time they act like that union representative. Like we are too stupid to know the difference. Really....the kid lunged???? That is an insult to everyone's intelligence. Do you defend the action? If you were that officers partner, and he committed what amounts to a criminal act, do you report him to your superiors? If so, who is going to come out the worst for it? You, or your partner? My guess is that you would be soon looking for a job in a different profession. Am I totally off base here?
I didn't watch the video. I don't work for a unionized police force. I don't cover up illegal action. We are scrutinized every single day not only by our fellow officers but our superiors, citizens who are involved, citizens who are just merely watching, the media, and the people we arrest. I don't know what else to say. Maybe I got into this cop thing late in the game. I put on my boots and go to work every day, working as hard as I can. As for your statement in bold...once again, if the good people like you fletch say those things imagine the difficulty we have with people who really hate us.
Watch the video and give us your honest opinion. To not watch it, is to insulate yourself from forming an opinion that may cross the blue line. Watch the video, then respond to the union head's statement and the actions of the officer. I would love for you to give honest answers to my earlier questions also. Can you? Or, would it not be in your best interest?
Look, if y'all posted videos of policemen doing incredible acts of kindness and showing unreal amounts of grace to balance this ...WAIT! There are none out there ...nevermind Gotta love internet muscles ...Jimbo ...please... I watched the video ... it was wrong ... others shouldn't cover for him ...as far as "covering for one another" statement ...I couldn't disagree more ..I see it all the time ....look at war crimes .... corporate america ... union employees .... seriously Dave ... the cops haven't cornered the market on it! It's just fun to bash authority ,,, that allows us to be our own authority ... The cop was a bully...and he should pay ... no one on here would disagree ....but if all you do is show theexception and not the rule, you haze reality ...
PT, its the rule, not the exception to the union leader. You agree? How many more are out there just like him? Again, I have the utmost respect for most LEO's. They do a job that I would not. They are paid half of their worth in most cases. I am in no way a basher. But, I get frustrated when they abuse their power and others in the force protect them. I have seen it first hand in small town Iowa and know it is a much bigger problem in larger metro areas. They are hired to do a job in an ethical manner. Do that, and I have zero problem. Abuse that, and it is a far greater injustice than any slimy business deal. Authority is a powerful thing. I still want to hear what VS has to say about the video and respond to my earlier questions.
Fletch, I was set to write you some stuff last night but I got held over at work and didn't hit the sheets until almost 5am. Even right now I am too tired to make any sense. I believe the officer was rightfully terminated and prosecuted for assault and battery. He was clearly guilty of assault and battery. An elbow strike at that speed is no joke. He should not get his job back. As for the police union guy........he never addressed the actual assault and battery because his job is to deflect I guess. I don't have the union thing here so I really don't understand all those dynamics.
I would say for being overworked you make perfect sense. I would have a lot more respect for unions if they would just come out and say that the guy was obviously in the wrong and there is no way they will tolerate that type of behavior from their members. But, that will likely never happen. I sure was not trying to pick on you, but really wanted to get an opinion from someone in the trenches and appreciate your response. Stay safe.
