On average how many deer do you see from the stand, bow only, each year? The last 3 years for me has been lackluster, about 20-23 deer sightings from the stand. This is way down from years ago. There are variables to this. 1. I don't hunt as much as I did 5 years ago. 2. I don't have some of the same land. I have lost a few places that were sure bets. 3. I don't know if I put quite the effort I once did. Meaning, I don't always go when I have the option, I may not try a new spot, I may have been a bit lazy about stand selections. So what is an average year for you?
I honestly don't know. Its a lot. Once it gets into winter and is cold I may see anywhere from 20-80 deer out in the field. As far as outside of that I usually see anywhere from a couple to 20 deer per sit.
I'm 1 to 5 for me on most sits this year. I mostly hunt timber and early season here you can barely climb a tree and see 40yds. My 1 to 5 are all within 60 yds of the stand....not 200 yds across an ag field.
Completely flat riverbottom ground. I can see a several out in the fields at any time of the year, but they really pile in during the winter. I normally only hunt field edges of I'm looking for a certain buck to see where he comes out. Outside of that I prefer to hunt mornings against bedding areas. That's where I will see upwards of 20 deer in a sit. And most of them are within 80 yards. If I hunt any of the other places I go to I average around 4-5 deer per sit.
haha man im doing it all wrong i see about 2-5 every 1-3 sits...ill let yall work out the avg per sit.
Yeh I am talking about me seeing 20-23 deer an entire season. I may do 25-30 sits total..so Im just under 50%. Now years ago, i would do 5-6 sits a week and see 2-3 per sit. Now I may see 1-2 deer every 2-3 sits. Never see a deer+ every sit any more. Also the the terrain I hunt is predominantly about 85% 2-10 year old cut over with small strips of tall timber. 85% bedding and feeding and 15 % travel ways. You would think it would help, but when they can lay anywhere and eat where they lay it makes it a challenge. They just never seem to do the same thing twice in two days....It's just nature of the beast in the southeast. But I do love bowhunting down here either way.
yeh I had some of those O deer sits as well. Morning and evening. Makes for a long day, but it also teaches you something as well.
It's pretty tough to quantify. I hunt 40 acres. I can see anywhere between 0-20 deer per sit. This season, my numbers have been way higher than the last couple years. I believe that is because 90% of the ag fields surrounding me went fallow this season, meaning my standing soybeans have become their kitchen. I would say my average for this season is probably between 8-10 per sit. The two previous years, it was probably 2-4 per sit.
I figured it out for this year. I sat 8 times and saw 16 deer + 1 when I was gutting out my buck. Out of the 16 deer I saw 6 does, 9 bucks and 1 undetermined sex. 7 out of the 9 bucks were shooters. It's not about quantity it's about quality.
I have not seen too many bucks over the last few years. just a handful in the past 3 years and only one of those I would consider a dandy of a buck.
I shot my buck early this year so I only sat 8-10 times. I generally hunt on field edges and can see a long way into cattails and CRP so my numbers are probably skewed. I generally see about 8-12 deer per sit and as many as 30 or so depending on the movement. The fewest amount of deer I saw in a sit this year was 4. Generally about half the deer I see are within 100 yards or less. There was probably only one sit this year where I couldn't have shot a deer if I were shooting anything and everything. I think I am going to invest in a decent camera and tree arm to start self filming this year. The last night of gun season, I sat with my nephew over a 1.5 acre bean plot and had 17 deer within 5-100 yards at once
