if i had to guess i would say 3.5 just by looking at the face and rack. if he was 4.5 or 5.5 i think he would have more mass. depends where you are from to. im from CT and he would looks like a 3.5 year old to me. could tell from seeing the jaw

I'd say 2.5 to 3.5. I'm from Illionis and would go with 2.5 around here. Hard to tell with him laying down.

You really need to pull one of the lower jaws bones and post a pic of that from the top view. Then you will get some good estimates.

2.5 or 3.5 at most would be my assumption only of how his neck to shoulder appears.

I'm not familiar with bucks in your area. If he were from central IL.. I'd guess 2.5.

Initial reaction was 2.5, but could be 3.5. Really it's a crap shoot unless you have the jaw bone examined like Matt said.

Its a hard guessing other States. Thats what I love about where I check my Deer in. They do a Jaw bone check there on the spot. Nice one though Landon ;)

yeh, I just see that so many guys on here don't shoot deer or do shoot deer based on their judgement from the tree, so i was wondering how the heck one does this?? How can you be sure?

You can't, at best it's an educated guess. But deer vary a lot from one region to another. You have to take into account where the deer is from.

I'll say 3.5 based on his body size. For most areas in VA that is a pretty big deer. He could be a 2.5, and would be especially big then. Didn't you get him in the mountains?
