Someone I know, not really friends with, harvested two bucks already this year in PA and was dumb enough to put them both on the internet. For those of you who don't know we are only allowed one buck per year here. Would you speak up about this situation or just let it go?
Yeah, TIPS hotline for sure. You don't know how many he's shot that he doesn't post on Facebook. Maybe the warden will show up and he'll have 5 in the garage.
If you are 100% sure they are both Pa bucks you need to turn him in. Sportsmen Policing Our Ranks Together (SPORT). They used to teach that in hunter safety classes in Pa, not sure if they still do.
Right, or is there a chance that it's not actually his? or Is there a chance it's from last year? or The year before? or Is there a chance it was hit by a car? or any number of other possibilities. The point is, before you go accusing somebody of poaching, you'd better make damn sure you're 100% right. I'm not saying you're wrong, but throwing accusations of poaching around will go over like a fart in church if you're wrong.
yeah, I would only call TIPS if I was sure he broke the limit in that state. Too many people's reputations are ruined by people who jump the gun on this kind of stuff.
I would just ask him where he shot two really nice bucks at, if he comes out and say both PA and it's on Facebook, simply send a screen shot or a link over to the GW and let it take it's course. But if you aren't 1000000% sure than do not, I repeat do not, do anything because that can cause a whole mess of trouble. Find out exactly how the buck was taken and where than determine what to do.
I agree with others. Make sure they are both this year deer and both from PA. My husband and I hunt three states. I put pictures of our kills online...but if others didn't know that we hunted and have tags for three states - it'd just cause one huge mess! Especially because I post his on my facebook. So technically - it could look like I shot multiple deer - even though it's really not just mine! ETA; What if they have farm tags? Can't you shoot more deer if they are damaging crops - legally?
I'm not really trying to stick my nose into it to much so I guess I have no way of knowing they were both for sure in PA. Just the wording of the caption and it just being a kid makes me think he wouldn't be out of state. Thank you all for the replies
Try and gather as much information as possible to see if they are both from PA. If they are then call the Turn In a Poacher 1-888-PGC-8001. There is no reason for someone to be shooting 2 bucks. What they don't realize is that they are cheating themselves if they are hunting on their own land. If they keep killing 2 bucks per year then they won't have any bucks left.
